@BillboardChris Can we even choose our beliefs? I would say we can't fully do that. We can choose to question and explore them, which may or may not change them. Our beliefs can only genuinely change if we discover evidence indicating our previous beliefs are wrong.

The judge ordered the data to be produced, yet while the Crown gave the spreadsheet to their own expert witness (Professor Robert Scragg of Auckland University - the same expert who claimed the vaccine was so safe he didn’t even need to look at it), they refused to provide it to the court. When challenged on proper procedure, they initially agreed, then backtracked weeks later claiming it was “too hard,” and are now actively refusing to show the evidence to the judge. They cannot look at it because they're just terrified of it. And that's been apparent throughout, even with this latest hearing. The judge said, to the court, to his credit, said, "I want to see the data." They [The Crown] gave the spreadsheet to their professor, their expert witness, they gave the data to him. The one who said, "It's such a safe vaccine... that I don't need to look at it." Yep... Professor [Robert] Scragg, Auckland University. And the judge said, as a matter of procedure, if you show the evidence to the expert, the court expects to see it as well. That's process 101. And the Crown said, "Oh, yes, if it would benefit the court, we will produce the data. We will give it to the court." However, they backtracked a couple of weeks later on that statement, which they made at the voir dire. They backtracked on it and said, "We've had a look and it's too hard. So we're not going to give the court that evidence, that data. So we're not going to show it to them." They just denied it. And so it goes round and round, but they are absolutely refusing to look at it. They are refusing to show it to the judge. And the reason why they're refusing to look at it is clearly because they're terrified of it."

If the Speaker signed off on Chloe Swarbrick using the debating chamber to film a political attack ad for the Green Party, it would represent a serious lapse in judgment, allowing all manner of partisan campaign ads to be filmed inside the House. If Brownlee did not approve it, then Swarbrick, as a long-serving MP and party co-leader - would have been fully aware of the Standing Orders and filming protocols. She would have known that the Speaker’s explicit permission is required for such a shoot. That would make it a deliberate breach of the rules.

Nobody seems to be able to define hate speech without relying on opinions of specific groups. "Hate" is an emotion, and it makes little sense to define a law based on that. Would it be the emotion of the person speaking that matters, or would it be someone hearing the speech "feeling hated" that matters?

@lesbianresist So where is the boundary between free speech and hate speech? Your placards might be seen as hate speech to someone. Just because we have free speech doesn't mean you need to say something. Like if someone uses a gay slur, it may be free speech but the intention is to show hate.

@1nzmw We don't need a billion dollar electricity company. WE own controlling stakes in Mercury, Meridian and Genesis who combined generate about 66% (that's two thirds for the lefties) of our electricity. We need sane supply charges. We need less expensive generation.

A simpler, cheaper solution might be for the government to simply legislate and manage who existing private companies can sell their power to. 2. The Problem of Past Subsidies Past taxpayer-funded projects, such as SolarZero, received over $150 million in funding but failed. How can the Green Party manage this new fund any differently to prevent the same mistakes? They don't have a "track record" illustrating their competence in this type of venture. 3. The True Energy Crisis: Diesel Electricity is only part of our energy problem. 98% of heavy trucks in New Zealand run on diesel. Without diesel, the country would shut down in weeks. There would be no food deliveries to supermarkets and no fuel for service stations. To replace diesel trucks with electric ones would take around 20 years. Right now, electric trucks are on back-order. There are simply not enough trucks available for purchase to make this a fast solution. It seems the Greens Renewable Energy Policy is more of a statement to say "Hey, we told you we were green" but doesn't show an intelligent holistic energy policy. I want to defend Stuart Nash. You can believe something wholehertedly for years until you can't and you stop. People change and evolve over time. I did. A Labour voter all my life until they left me so I had to leave them. They changed so I had to change. I was vaccinated initially but saw the deaths and injuries and I stopped because I wanted the truth. I left them in 2022 because seeing that changed me so radically that I made the most radical change I could - from left to right. I did it in a heartbeat and never looked back. Once you make a change that is so drastic, you are changed. Life is about growth and evolution and people deserve to be respected when they make a change and distance themselves from all that they believed in previously. I think this is what Stuart Nash has done. Listen to his speech from the convention. He went into detail about it. He hasn't just changed parties, he has changed from left to right. If you go through life with no changes ever, you have stagnated. When truth hits you in the face, you either examine it and make a change, or turn away from it and carry on. Stuart Nash has had the courage to confront it and make huge changes. I say welcome on board Stuart.

We welcome all beliefs apparently. Will they welcome ours though? I don't hear them stating that as a core philosophy. This is not a new concept. Look up Karl Popper's "paradox of tolerance". It doesn't end well.
