It was a privilege and a lot of fun to give a keynote at @agisummitai in San Francisco (last week) and share our perspective on the #GenesisMission. The excitement across industry was unmistakable. Agent demonstrations from Anthropic, OpenAI, Kimi and others can feel like magic. But real science is a much harder test. Scientific agents still struggle with incomplete data, uncertain evidence, experimental failure and decisions that cannot be validated against reliable benchmarks. Closing this gap will require better ground truth data, rigorous scientific evaluations, traceable evidence and greater trust in every agent decision. Strong public and private partnerships can bring these pieces together and accelerate discovery across energy, national security and science. The goal is not simply more capable agents. Stated that: - The Government of India has significantly strengthened the national ocean observation network through ocean observation moorings, the Indian Tsunami Early Warning System, coastal observation systems, and deep-sea and autonomous observation platforms to support ocean monitoring and forecasting. - The Indian Tsunami Early Warning System comprises 17 broadband seismic stations, 7 deep-ocean tsunami buoys, 36 coastal tide gauges, 35 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, and strong-motion accelerometers, while INCOIS maintains a network of Directional Wave Rider Buoys, Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs), Automatic Weather Stations (AWS), Water Quality Buoys, and tide gauges for continuous monitoring of coastal and ocean conditions. - The strengthened ocean observation network has significantly improved the accuracy of monsoon prediction, cyclone forecasting, and ocean-state forecasts by providing high-quality real-time observations for numerical weather and ocean models. - The Government is continuously expanding the network through the installation of 14 additional tide gauges, 15 co-located GNSS receivers, deployment of a Directional Wave Rider Buoy off Mauritius, regular pre- and post-monsoon research vessel cruises, and strengthened collaboration with CSIR–NIO, NCPOR, and other partner institutions.
