@NeilDuggan80 @WisdenCricket What a shambles. And yet they are so quick to say there is too much cricket and blame the counties. The greed is disgusting. Short form cricket will burn itself out.

Windermere should not be green @keirstarmer A reminder of a study we conducted with @MapImpact , funded by the UK Space Agency, as we observe widespread algal growth this week. We studied Windermere using satellite imagery, combining this with mobile phone data to assess the impact of human activity—specifically sewage—on Windermere. The results were as follows: ➡️ There is a direct correlation between visitor numbers in the area and algal growth in Windermere.
➡️ Algal growth worsens when lake temperatures increase.
➡️ There is no correlation between agricultural activity and algal spikes in Windermere.
➡️ In the past three years, there have been single days where over 300,000 people were present in the catchment area.
➡️ Despite owning the vast majority of sewage infrastructure in and around Windermere, United Utilities refused to provide any data for this publicly funded study aimed at protecting our lake. This study clearly demonstrated that, while climate plays a critical role in algal growth in Windermere, the pressure on inadequate infrastructure is the factor we can manage and must address urgently. When more people visit Windermere, we see more algae in the lake, and the climate exacerbates this issue even further. This isn’t about people coming to the area; it’s about insufficient investment by a £7 billion corporation to cope with increased populations and climate change. Despite previous investments and phosphorus levels peaking in the ‘90s, sewage remains the largest input into Windermere, and not enough has been done to ensure the infrastructure is adaptable to climate change as the baseline has shifted. We could talk about climate or we can talk about how we protect our lake by addressing what we can control. The solution has been successfully implemented in lakes worldwide, including the famous Lake Annecy in France. Their lake is now free from sewage and is classified as the cleanest in Europe. The solution underscores the necessity of a long-term infrastructure investment plan that surpasses the current inadequate proposals, addressing both untreated and treated sewage. Reduction isn’t enough; it has to be about removal. savewindermere.com @Feargal_Sharkey @Dawn_French @mermhart @JohnBishop100 @HugoSAS @susannareid100 @ChrisGPackham @RobGMacfarlane @adamvaughan_uk @CraigBennett3 @campbellclaret @RichardHammond @GaryLineker

@xlivgabsx Always worth doing a double header when travelling a distance. I ended up doing four in five days when up north. I wish @HexhamRaces & Thirsk were local to me. Good Luck.
