@NeilFonda @DavQuinn If you work on a bank holiday you get a day in lieu. No one is losing out. That’s how you can still buy petrol on a BH.

Opening the pubs on #GoodFriday stripped Ireland of another bit of cultural distinctiveness. It was a grubby, materialistic, crass thing to do dressed up in the clothes of 'progress'.

@DavidMarra @DavQuinn Iam aware of that but since it is a bank holiday, they should allow staff etc that bank holiday, like the rest.

@DavQuinn Man serving in Waitrose today says he remembers when *everything* was closed on Good Friday. He didn't look *that* much older than me.

@DavQuinn No, it wasn’t. We’re grown adults. We can decide for ourselves when we want to visit the pub. If we want to preserve Good Friday as an important day in Ireland (we should), then make it the 11th bank holiday.

@mulcs85 This is such an unreflective point. Go away and think about it some more.

@GeorgeFitzallen @DavQuinn The very heart of christianity is the ability to forgive, you're being very selective in your definition of christianity.

I take your point. Sometimes institutions go good alongside harm. But we all individually need to draw that line; decide where, for us, the harm outweighs the good. Yes, the Church did and does some good in Ireland, but it was and is far outweighed by the systematic rape of children, the abuse of women, and the protection of their abusers. For me, that line is very clear. What the Church has done here and elsewhere can never be forgiven, and anyone who can forgive it is not aligning themselves with Christian theology.

@DavQuinn Ireland is much better off free of the yoke of Catholicism. Many of us will never forget how the Church systematically abused the most vulnerable in Irish society.

@DavQuinn If one is not religious, then they should be free to do as they please. Those of a religious persuasion can follow their religious beliefs. What's your problem? Are you wanting to force everyone to do the same as you, whether they like it or not

The Climate Change Advisory Council is still taking the very extreme and incredibly unlikely climate scenario RCP 8.5 seriously in its latest report. That is total scare-mongering. rte.ie/news/ireland/2…

Prof Mark Woolhouse at yesterday's Covid expert discussion: "We need to make avoiding lockdown a policy objective. Not because lockdowns never work — they do — but because they cause enormous harm." (Broadcast this far and wide).

Our government is torching our most important strategic alliance. This disaster should be understood in context. The U.S. did not ask us to choose between friends. It asked for help degrading a mutual enemy, a toxic regime that has actively attacked us. And we said no.

The reporting from @bbcnews is disgraceful. It clearly wants the U.S. / Israel to lose and has even set its own 'finishing line'. And every update leans toward discrediting the U.S. and Israel, while downplaying Iran’s deliberate attacks on civilian areas. Insane.
