@drwillpearson @TomHCalver @thetimes @drwillpearson you beat me to it. If you look at the general state of health (BMI, fitness, increasing age, alcohol, tobacco and other substance use - but mainly obesity) to try and keep these people healthy long term is going to be extraordinarily expensive.

@TomHCalver @thetimes You seem to think life expectancy is mostly about the nhs. As an NHS GP, I’d say it’s mostly about poverty and inequality. (And funding flatlined for a few years during austerity - very difficult to make that up. Funding for general practice continues to fall as % of whole).

NEW: Is the NHS still good value for money? Billions of pounds are being ploughed into Britain’s health service — with little noticeable improvement in health since 2019. Critics say the NHS has become bloated and inefficient. Is it? @thetimes 1/7

@talaminidoc @Neil_J_Smart My experience thus far has not demonstrated a big difference in adenoma detection but certainly helps with decision making regarding removing adenoma vs leaving metaplastic polyps. Our UK pathology colleagues are overworked already!

Computer-assisted colonoscopy (CADopt) boosts adenoma detection rate to 49.3% vs 38.2% with standard approach, with significant gains in polyp detection (78.2% vs 59.2%). Could AI-enhanced medical screening become the new standard of care across all diagnostic procedures? rdcu.be/d4uXg @SAGES_Updates @EAES_eu @Surgendosc

🧵regarding the Bovie, which is one of the most commonly used tools in surgery. I have decided to reorganize my Bovie content into something that makes more sense, which will require multiple 🧵. This first one will cover the very basics and is geared toward students. (1/ )

@TheDA_UK I’m still puzzled why educated/informed docs think that widening the base of the career pyramid will be helpful when career training posts are in short supply - and ultimately Cons posts. Given recent pay rises there is unlikely to be funding for qualified GPs. Doc unemployment?

@MovetheWorld9 @Delilah15707758 @LucyGoBag I straddle both sectors. No there is no private A&E Private sector relies on nhs for emergencies and really sick patients for ITU. Comparisons are apples and oranges. It would be too expensive for private sector to cover this territory and make insurance unaffordable for most.

@Delilah15707758 @LucyGoBag Is that true? There are no private hospitals with emergency facilities? Seems unlikely. I know that there are no private healthcare insurance plans that cover accidents and emergencies, which is highly problematic. The market will provide that when enough demand is reached.

@Azeem_Majeed They pledge to and sometimes build new hospitals but forget to tell you that they’ve reduced bed capacity. Our lovely little community hospitals have closed and in the result loosing wards full of beds. Privatising elderly care has compounded this issue too!

@Dubai_allergy @WestSuffolkNHS @MattHancock No, it is actually a new build. Smaller than requested (ask the last govt ) and smaller than existing. I predict A/E corridor ‘escalation bays’ will still be regular feature. Sad as it could have been fantastic.

@HakunaMatata26C I think you will find this was pretty much agreed under the Tory government, all this talk of sovereign land and being ‘ours’ is a bit odd these islands are in the middle of the Indian Ocean and we evicted all the occupants, not really ours were they?

@drChrisSyn @JMPSimor Not sure that was the implication. Jenrick inferred that Ben Wallace had said that special forces were under orders to kill alleged terrorists vs take prisoners to avoid ECHR prosecution. Wallace has not said that on record. Does Jenrick know more? If so his sources?

This “have you eVeN rEaD it, bro?” gambit’s quite frankly pathetic. How your reply relates to a KC member of the bar skilled at drafting for years, wilful using a partisan political hack’s phrasing to suggest Jenrick was running an assassination bureau from Whitehall: escapes me.

Jenrick, a former Home Office Minister, says that UK Special Forces are murdering rather than arresting people to avoid the risk of them being allowed to stay. This is an extremely serious allegation of criminality. If he ordered it or has information, he must be held to account.
Robert Jenrick@RobertJenrick

Do you want to deport foreign criminals, get terrorists off our streets, and end illegal migration? Then we must leave the ECHR.

@drChrisSyn @JMPSimor Did you read what Jenrick said? Did you listen to him on R4 this am? C’mon admit it he is a bit dim to say these things to justify his views on ÉCHR.

>> If he ordered it… How would a fmr Immigration Minister have ‘ordered’ UKSF to do anything, exactly? What, do you imagine there was some Tory hotline on his desk and a secret codeword: “Hereford 4-5-1… eliminate Abu al-Jihadi”? Put the crackpipe down and go clean your room. (I mean chambers.)

Why are some people more interested in Keir's donated suit ( declared properly) and are not interested in Jenrick being given £75 000 from a company that is based on a tax-haven island and has no employees. I find that quite odd. Immagine if it had been the other way round

@alisonleary1 @DaveParaACCP_AA The tragedy, and absurdity, of this is the fact that PAs are already well established in clinical practice and providing a safe and effective contribution to the MDT delivery of healthcare. What next? An aggressive SoMe campaign against ANPs, ACCPs, PHE paramedics🤔

@rbarbosa91 @javlatif I thought fishes were now in museum! I used them 30yrs ago (until someone in world lost one - minus the string+loop so banned!) Concerned to see sharp pointy needles when most of us using Ethiguard blunt taper or similar nowadays, particularly for trainees.

@UmpsMo @Dr_BellaR Always sounds ridiculously pompous to me (just my opinion). I state my first and second name and what my role is. I introduce my team by Mr X and Dr Y to give deference to their status. I do o not need the authority of my title - I manage.
