This is costing the government (ie the taxpayer) about £1.8bn. Instead of gimmicks like this which will not bring down unemployment or support the almost 1m NEETs, the government could have invested this into the SEND crisis or recruiting more teachers or scrapping the VAT on independent schools. No. They’re paying for rollercoasters and soft play instead.

I cannot repeat this enough. Most extant terraced housing in London was built for the middle classes (form clerical up) and are quite large.
Our national stereotypes, for once, are based on northern cities where smaller terraces were built at scale for factory workers etc.

Why are investment bankers living in two up two downs in South London that were built for manual labourers? Because we haven’t built enough luxury housing. When we don’t build luxury homes, the houses that used to be for the everyman become the preserve of the elite. And everyone else moves *down* the chain. By building luxury homes we can move everyone *up* that chain.

In 2017, Jones was convicted of drink-driving and cautioned for common assault. In 2022 he was convicted of ABH - a case of domestic violence.

We need our best players on the pitch. There is no doubt that Andy Burnham is one of them. The Makerfield by-election will be tough. Votes will need to be earned. Andy is the best chance of winning and that should override factional advantage or propping up one person.
