Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war.  Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace. I am focused on making sure that every New Yorker is safe. I have been in contact with our Police Commissioner and emergency management officials. We are taking proactive steps, including increasing coordination across agencies and enhancing patrols of sensitive locations out of an abundance of caution. Additionally, I want to speak directly to Iranian New Yorkers: you are part of the fabric of this city — you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. You will be safe here.

@TreyYingst I would also suggest many of these were detainees forced to appear in the streets as pro-regime or else be executed. Seems like something they’d try to pull off 🤔

@FaytuksNetwork All “transfers” would go to an already shit country that would then be indebted to IRGC, so best believe it would come right back. All other agreements are temporary so really nothing is accomplished in the long run. ALL of this would resurface in time. Bomb the IRGC. Free Iran.

@AllenKessler @SouthwestAir Very similar experience yesterday while heading from Vegas to SLC. Mostly empty flight and because I opted for a lower priced ticket, nobody was allowed to move to one of the several open rows throughout the plane. I plan on using my RR points and finding a new airline CC promo

I just happen to be flying on @SouthwestAir today on their first day of assigned seating. They have figured out a system to generate additional funds. They auto assigned me middle seats on both flights. I ask the agent can I get a non middle seat? She says yes but there is a fee. I'm obviously not paying extra for something I always got free on the old system. Southwest had a niche in the market. Free checked bags, and flexible seating. They ditched both of those concepts and now are like any other airline, but with even higher seat and luggage fees than the competition. I would short Southwest stock if I knew how to do that. No one here at the airport likes the "new system".

The Iranian uprising against the Islamic Republic matters because it represents something historically unprecedented: a mass, indigenous revolt against an Islamist system by the very people who have lived under it for more than four decades. It is a comprehensive rejection of political Islam as a governing ideology, articulated by millions who have endured its cruelty. In that sense, the uprising in Iran is a global reckoning. Since 1979, the Islamic Republic has ruled through systematic violence. It has executed tens of thousands of political prisoners, including the mass executions of the late 1980s carried out after sham proceedings lasting only minutes. Peaceful dissent has been criminalized, with journalists, lawyers, students, and labor organizers imprisoned for speech alone. Torture—beatings, sexual violence, mock executions, and prolonged solitary confinement—has been a routine instrument of governance. These are not deviations from the system; they are its design. Women have borne a particularly brutal share of this repression. The regime enforces compulsory veiling through surveillance, harassment, imprisonment, and lethal force. Women have been killed in custody for alleged dress-code violations, denied legal equality, and treated as wards of the state. Girls like myself have been shut out of educational and professional opportunities that existed before 1979, and women who resist have been publicly humiliated to deter others. When Iranian women rise up today, they are rejecting a system that criminalizes their existence. The regime’s violence has never stopped at Iran’s borders. It has spent decades exporting terror as state policy, funding proxy militias, training death squads, and prolonging civil wars across the Middle East. These interventions have destroyed cities, collapsed economies, and displaced millions. The resulting refugee crises have reshaped politics and social cohesion across Europe, allowing the regime to externalize the human cost of its ideology. At home, the state has hollowed out society through corruption and repression. National wealth has been looted by clerical and military elites while ordinary Iranians face inflation, unemployment, and collapsing infrastructure. Environmental devastation has been ignored because accountability would threaten regime power. When workers strike or farmers protest water theft, the response is bullets and prison cells. What makes the uprising so significant is that it dismantles the regime’s central lie: that political Islam represents moral order or cultural authenticity. Iranians know from lived experience that it produces neither justice nor dignity, only fear and stagnation. By rejecting clerical rule and theological coercion, they are exposing Islamism as an authoritarian ideology sustained by violence. This has profound implications for the West. For decades, Western governments treated the Islamic Republic as a stabilizing fixture, prioritizing short-term convenience over moral clarity. That approach has failed. Supporting the Iranian people is not interference; it is a refusal to subsidize tyranny through silence. The Iranian uprising matters because it shows that Islamism can be confronted and rejected by those who know it best. The West should support this movement out of strategic and moral necessity. A free Iran would mean fewer proxy wars, fewer refugees, and the collapse of Islamism, which is one of the most violent ideological engines of human history. And time will remember who stood with the Iranian people when they revealed, at immense personal cost, both the true nature of Islamism and the possibility of defeating it.

This is the funeral of a young protester who was killed by Islamic Regime last week. Traditionally in Iran, funerals are marked by sorrow: sad music, Islamic sermons, and recitations from the Quran. But here, something completely different is happening. The music being played is the kind normally heard at weddings. People are clapping. They are dancing. At a funeral! This is not celebration, it is protest. By rejecting religious rituals and replacing them with wedding music, people are sending a clear and defiant message: how deeply they despise this so-called “religious” government, how strongly they oppose the regime and its imposed ideology. There is hardly any way more difficult, more profound, or more unmistakable to express opposition to this regime, and yet, the people of Iran continue down this path. They do not retreat. They do not back down. #IranMassacre

Why the Islamic regime in Iran kills its own people. Short answer: they don’t see Iranians as their people. 1,400 years ago, Muslims conquered Persia. They killed thousands and forced people to convert. Yet even then, they couldn’t fully dominate the culture. Islam is actually Arabian culture, but Iranians kept their customs and language. After a few hundred years, Iran got free from Arab rulers—but Islam remained the religion. 47 years ago, Islamist clerics won the power grab in the revolution and, for the first time since Arab rule ended, became rulers themselves—most of them wearing black turbans, which means they’re descended from Arabs (yes, that’s the literal meaning). Over the past 47 years, they’ve tried to turn Iranian culture into Islamic culture in a systematic way—brainwashing children from elementary school—and they’ve also tried to export their ideology to other countries. Their biggest obstacle, their worst enemy, has been Iranians themselves. That’s why they now see the people of Iran as their enemy: People vs. Allah. Islamic ideology doesn’t coexist; it seeks dominance. Many countries across the region were forced to surrender their identity. Iranians are still resisting. So when you see Iranians being massacred in, understand it as a much deeper conflict between Iran and Islamists. - @amir2017x
