Play the ball not the man, Andrew! There's this weird thing going on where it's become trendy on the right to assert that the only relevant experience for political decision making is having run a business. I find it odd that someone can think there's no merit in acquiring skills, knowledge and competence at working in policy and politics before becoming an MP. Or that different people can't bring valid broader life experience/perspectives to the offices they hold. Very blinkered!
Andrew Griffith MP@griffitha

The arrogance of Labour Treasury ministers on full display. An inexperienced PPE graduate who has never run a business in his life thinks he knows better than the CEO of a major retailer. Zero self awareness. A growing crisis of youth unemployment and they just don’t get it.

Deadnaming a trans person with malicious intent in this day and age, is just beyond cruel. If Q wanted to be known by their old name, they'd use it. But they obviously don't. This makes me so angry and makes me despair if this is what we call reasonable debate
The Spectator@spectator

Before being elected MSP for Edinburgh and Lothians East, Q Manivannan – who is a biological male and whose original first name is Srivatsan, but who now uses the pronouns they/them – told party members that they were ‘a queer Tamil immigrant’ from a ‘lower caste’ background. This qualified them to speak for the ‘working class and marginalised’ because they often went ‘hungry and because I was starved… worked and lied and begged.’ According to a Sunday Times investigation, this account doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. It transpires that Manivannan actually hails from an upper-middle class family in Chennai, one of India’s wealthiest cities. While the MSP claims to be the descendant of panoply of underworld exotics, of ‘courtesans, dancers, musicians, hunters and prostitutes’, the Green politician’s father reportedly has degrees in chemical engineering and business administration and their mother had a career in academia. The young Manivannan attended a private school, a private liberal arts and law university, and in 2019 went to work at a consultancy in Delhi which helps the super-rich gain places at international universities. This is all rather awkward for a Scottish Green party that wants to abolish private schools. ✍️ Patrick West Article | spectator.com/article/q-mani…

@PeterMcCormack Prediction. Restore take the majority of the vote that was Reform. They also take at least a tenth of the Labour vote. And they get a lot of disillusioned non voters out - and win the seat.

Dear Restore Britain activists, Ignore the noise. The polls, the smears, the hysteria. They are all symptoms of the fact we are getting the job done by just getting on the ground and doing the leg work. Keep it up. We are going to win.

@NiallUKNS To be honest, I fall into the "don't believe" camp at the moment. But as I say I'm starting to hear it from multiple sources. And it's a very high bar for Restore to set.

So again, file under believe or don't believe. But I've now heard from multiple sources inside and outside Restore who say they believe the party is now in with a chance of catching Reform in Makerfield. Going back later this week, so I'll be in a better position to judge.

Today has been the hottest day in May on record with Kew Gardens provisionally reaching 34.8°C - exceeding the previous highest May temperature in the UK by a full 2 degrees Celsius🌡️ This heat would be exceptional in the UK even in mid summer, let alone in May📈

I was young in the 80s/90s in the UK. I don’t remember my parents ever going out to eat, except when we were on holiday (in the UK). I don’t think they ever took me to a fast food restaurant, or ordered takeaway food. People today have no clue how working people lived. /1
Raven@raven_brah

Boomers seem to forget that fast food used to be a normal, everyday expense for them because it was affordable. You could get a burger easily on minimum wage, it wasn’t some fancy treat you had once a year as a reward for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.

Actually, I suspect you at GB News have decided the less air-time that Reform candidate Robert Kenyon gets then the better his chances.
Michael Crick@MichaelLCrick

@tomhfh Tosh. We once interviewed 13 candidates in one by-election in one day & edited it. Due weight is the story, not giving everyone the same length or proportions. Things don't have to be meticulously legalled & measured. You're being so defeatist. Get your lawyers to ring me.

Ahead of Saturday we looked at attitudes to Tommy Robinson and the Unite the Kingdom march. Only 16% of Britons have a positive opinion of Robinson, 46% have a negative one. Voters of main parties have negative majority view apart from Reform voters where 44% have a positive one
