Still can't get over this fact that @tylercowen shared a while back with @EconTalker: Led Zeppelin's first LP was closer in time to the end of the First World War than it is to today

Feast your eyes on the "Gingerbarge," a homemade piece of baking art shared by Reddit user truenorth4444. The grounded barge on Sunset Beach has also inspired Christmas ornaments, tongue-in-cheek TripAdvisor reviews, a lighthearted sign from the city's park board, and more.

When it comes to school leadership, I'm a Viviane Robinson super-fan. I've tried to read as much of her research as I can, particularly for my Masters in Educational Leadership. 🔗Here are 9 open-access papers exploring problem solving conversations that I've enjoyed recently.

@sandstorms "To acquire academic vocabulary, many students need coherent, systematic instruction in a series of topics that give repeated exposure to the concepts and words in varied contexts over a period of weeks." This is the foundation of our Short Text program! deltalearns.ca/elementarylite…

“generally, the most effective way for kids to acquire knowledge is not by reading complex texts on their own—at least when the topic is unfamiliar. Teachers need to read those texts aloud to the whole class and lead discussions focused on the content”
Natalie Wexler@natwexler

Two popular reading curricula have recently been criticized--for good reason. But if we want to change teacher practice, we also need to be clearer on some widespread misconceptions about how reading works. My latest post for Forbes: forbes.com/sites/nataliew…

Curious how often @Neilstephenson is tagged when people actually meant to tag @nealstephenson ? Seen it 3 or 4 times in the last 24 hours from completely different people. Has to have been happening for years? Now I'm learning about student self-motivation from Neil's tl, rad.

New meta-analysis on motivation suggests competence is the driving factor in student self-motivation. The data also suggests teachers play a more important role in developing student self-motivation than parents. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.3102/00…

For me, rubrics are just giving someone a destination and criteria that says how they did in getting there. This only works if you know how to get there. A learning progression gives a destination and tangible steps to get there. It increases access to the learning outcome.
