Almost like a course reading list on Anglo-American conservatism. I would add, of course Eliot, Oakeshott and Scruton on this side of the pond, and Nash on the other side.

although from Croatia, I'm more aligned with Burke and what is considered anglo-conservatism, but keep hearing de Maistre whenever euro conservatism is mentioned (not familiar with him, just asking due to hearing his name often in these talks)

@Neine91Cro In that respect I would rely on Béla Menczer for the first part of it. From the 20th century I would definitely read Jünger, Del Noce, Joachim Ritter, Aron, Brague, Legutko, Buttiglione and Manent.

@briankeepsworth "Economic activity should be immune from moral oversight" would be rejected by almost all modern proponents of Capitalism such as Sowell, Friedman, or Hayek. It would be rejected by almost everyone who self describe as capitalists. Why bother critiquing something no one believes?

Capitalism is the economic theory of Liberalism - which was a leftist and even revolutionary movement. Capitalism is not conservative and never has been.

Svojim tvrdnjama o različitim ontologijama direktno potkopavaš nauk o Imago Dei kako ga Crkva oduvijek naučava.
KKC 1934 jasno kaže: "Svi su ljudi stvoreni na sliku jednoga Boga, obdareni su istom razumnom dušom te imaju istu narav i isto porijeklo." Ovo nije samo "jednakost po dostojanstvu" kao neka apstraktna ljepota, ovo je ontološka istina o ljudskom biću kako naučava KC. Svi imamo istovjetnu ljudsku narav (ne biologija), svi smo obdareni istom razumnom dušom i svi smo stvoreni na istu sliku Božju
Ta ontološka jednakost upravo je temelj jednakog dostojanstva. Crkva ne razdvaja jedno od drugoga. Dostojanstvo proizlazi iz ontologije.

@CooperatoresV1 Opet ne razumiješ pročitano. KKC 1934-1938 govori o jednakosti po dostojanstvu, ne o jednakosti po ontologiji i biologiji. Rekla bih ti da proučiš isto tako Ordo Amoris, ali nemam nade na ćeš to shvatiti.

Catholics should start reading catholic political theorists to formulate proper views on politics. Not everything can be answered by the Catechism or even theologians.

I'm very sceptic of such supranational organizations. Can see the point in having them, but lack any idea on how could they work properly without turning into leviathan. Any thoughts on your side on this?

@SohrabAhmari True, while the Church also encourages an international authority who can enforce it. Pius XII encouraged a world government (April, 1951) who could implement international law & Gaudium et Spes alludes to a competent authority on the international level who can uphold order. 👇

Yes, there is such a thing as international law.
But there is no world police to enforce it.
It falls to individual powers to do so, in the manner of masterless samurai or Western gunslingers.

Working on the CANON of INTELLECTUAL CONSERVATISM - a list of great, widely accepted names, from the period 1945-1990, from major Western political cultures. Thinkers, whose story can be narrated historically and comparatively. Some cultures are ok, some are not yet clear.
