@Acts17David I think it is more a case of, even if it isn't idolatry, it comes dangerously close and can become it if they aren't careful. Even good things can become idols, see the bronze serpent.

Even as a Protestant I found this thinking weird. EO explicitly deny they worship icons, so the presumption should be they are not idolators. Perhaps a strong argument could overcome this, but instead its often just "icons look to me personally like idolatry so they are idolatry"

If Iran could launch one or two nukes at the USA, even assuming they'd get here and worked as advertised, Iran must expect massive ruinous "civilization-ending" reprisals.
