If you create from a place of anger, expect your audience to reciprocate
Yes, you may generate engagement and a lot of “You’re so right” comments, but you will not generate a lot of clients…
Scrolling through your feed how many “F Gurus” and “Stop doing this dumb stuff” posts have you seen?
I’m sure a fair few, the engagement on those posts are high, the resonance on that content is high to.
The creators feel they’re uniting their people.
To a certain degree they are, and attacking a common enemy is a good marketing strategy.
Where most go wrong is by taking that anger towards the enemy and unknowingly directing towards the very same people they wish to work with.
I’m no ‘saint’ when it comes to this, I let my frustrations boil over into my content, it usually happens after the 15th Landing page design cold DM
When people create from that place of anger and frustration your audience can feel it.
They can feel that energy. But most of all they feel responsible for it, and they feel the creator is blaming them.
Sometimes that can work, I know a few people who use aggression and anger as a marketing tool very effectively. But they’re aware of it.
They also do a fantastic job of shifting the blame from their audience to the common enemy.
Most people are posting in anger without a proper strategy.
Which leads to their audience feeling like they're angry with them and blaming them.
Think of it this way, let’s say in real life you have a friend and every time you see that friend he says the following to you:
“You gotta work harder bro, your family is counting on you”
“Cold DMs are so dumb bro, you should be doing this instead”
“So many beginners out there bro, just doing dumb stuff all the time”
You’d probably say to that friend: “I am working hard, I’m trying cold DMs and other things, and screw you everyone starts somewhere”
Now you on social media wouldn’t dare to say that.
You’d rather fit in with the crowd and give your friend a “Hell Yeah” in the comments, because that’s what the crowd is doing.
Which means you’re burying the resentment you feel towards that post because deep down you think “he is talking to me”
Which if I’m being honest, maybe I’m doing that to you right now. However here is the difference.
The anger isn’t a bad thing, but too many people are channeling it as anger towards their audience not the common enemy.
If instead of taking your anger out on your audience you shifted the ‘blame’ to the common enemy, you’d unite your people and make them think ‘it’s not my fault’.
And when they believe that, they then will believe there is a better way.
Yes, I understand that some people do need a kick in the ass, they do need the “you gotta work harder” type stuff.
But humans don’t like it when people are angry with them or that it’s their fault.
So channel the anger in a different way, others you’ll be left with an audience full of angry people, not buyers…
