@Rachel__Nichols Still a terrible take. It’s not hard to understand that the needs and desires of people in New York City most likely do not match those in rural Nebraska. There must be a way to balance those out.

Some hilarious responses here. 1) I don’t need a civics class to learn what’s in the Constitution…that our system is set up this way is *literally the point of the tweet* 2) the same person could win the popular & electoral vote tonight and the popular vote still won’t matter. 3) yes we’re a Republic. A Republic is a specific type of representative democracy. 4) I’m an advocate of the popular vote no matter who wins it. I have lived in seven states that are a mix of red and blue. Personally, I’d like my vote to count the same no matter where I live next, and from the ratio on this tweet it seems many more people agree with me than not. That being said, I understand that you might not! We live in a country that allows for everyone to have voice, which is another thing I like.

Regardless of what happens tonight, it remains crazy to me that in a democracy “the person who the most Americans vote for to become president” is a meaningless stat.
