@karenab32 @Lookinupatstars I had my first on Monday. I’m very small and it hurt like hell. Felt like they were trying to twist my nipple off. I asked her, does this hurt less if you’re bigger. She said sometimes.

Had a mammogram today. Boys: imagine having your goolies pressed hard into a Breville toastie maker while a well-meaning lady stands next to you saying “now just breathe”. Why is women’s healthcare so fucking PAINFUL? 😥

@Liz_ORiordan Ok so I currently am waiting to see the breast surgeon on Monday (it’s very probably a cyst again). I saw my GP am 2nd Aug 2 wk referral, had text with appt pm. Northumbria/Newcastle NHS. Can’t fault them, they were great last time.

UK Tweeps. What is the average waiting time to see a breast surgeon if your GP refers you with a breast lump? When I retired in 2018 it was 2 weeks. Is that still the same?

@simonharris_mbd I’m not sure about the primary ones, think they have a habit of teaching to test which is detrimental. Things have changed a bunch since we did them. Not necessarily for the best.

@simonharris_mbd I was in the first cohort to do SATs at 13. For us it was just like having an end of year test, no big deal.

@BenAllenGP I need a MRI in a few weeks. I’ve been told by consultant to “just try” despite being me telling I’m very claustrophobic. They either will get poor or no images. I already feel bad for them.

If a patient is too anxious to have an MRI, and the radiologist thinks sedation would be helpful, is it a GPs job to prescribe it? Is this a reasonable thing for them to send back to us? Or should the radiology department be doing this themselves. They are doctors too?!

@BenAllenGP I got given a print out of my scan and told to go Google. That’s how I found out I might have thyroid cancer. He could have just said.

What should GPs do with patients saying 'I didn't understand my hospital Dr' Or 'Explain this letter'? (NOT a dig! We all get misunderstood. Many patients think its a GPs job to clarify hospital communication) I want to redirect patients back to consultant secretary🤔 Thoughts?

@LoulouWebb @Liz_ORiordan When I had my total thyroidectomy they didn’t tell me I had a “bunch of lymph nodes” out for three months. A year later I found out they did something to my thymus (don’t know what).

@Liz_ORiordan My surgeon said she'd check my lymph nodes whilst I was 'under' having my lumpectomy and only take them out if necessary (obviously). I didn't find out that I had cancer in the nodes and they had been removed too until my follow up appointment with her weeks later. So shocked!

I want to apologise to the relatives of everyone I’ve ever operated on whom I didn’t call after the operation - either waiting til the end of the day or leaving it to a nurse in recovery or on the ward. It’s awful being on the third side of the table, waiting …

@Nerruze @Oohgpwales They know more than we do about this. Let's take our cue from them. Maybe masks aren't evidenced to be efficacious. A CEV contact had Covid recently, by the way, and it was, in effect, a cold: they've now happily returned to office and pub. Things are not as they were in 2020.

@PatriciaMunn604 @Oohgpwales I will do. Since it’s the same hospital that prescribes my immunosuppressants, I somewhat naïvely thought it would be clearly marked on my records.

@Oohgpwales I had a neurology appointment yesterday. My consultant did not wear a mask, neither did any other patients or more of the staff. I’m CEV and since it was my first time seeing him I had to go in.

@DrJessMRCVS I’m high risk for stones because I have hypoparathyroidism but no-one ever listens. Also turns out I was born with a malrotated kidney which can also increase the risk.

@DrJessMRCVS I had a stone. They sent me home with antibiotics I didn’t need because I “wasn’t in enough pain” and to go back if it got worse. I was never given or offered painkillers. It got worse. I didn’t go back. Luckily mine was small and had passed ok by the time I finally had my CT.

4 days since I was diagnosed with a kidney stone stuck in my ureter and I have experienced such a wide range of responses from health professionals. In many ways I wish a vet was in charge of my care. A thread:
