I hope for a more family-friendy environment in Germany, Europe, and the world. Interested in demography.

@PatrickHeizer I am actually not convinced that tariffs, done properly, would be bad for a resource-rich economy the side of that of the US (or at least I don't think it has to be bad for workers in the United States). The war was/is a humungous L that, imo, will easily cost him the midterms.

@Primal_Birth You are probably, right. However, here in Germany we have over 80 million people in a state smaller than Montana. Land availability is not remotely comparable to the new world.

@NerthuzX I'm a firm believer that if you want something bad enough you'll make it happen. Your only limiting factor is yourself. It's been quite a journey to get here.

@Porkchop_EXP Earlier motherhood also give the woman the opportunity to decide if she even really wants to work. Whereas becoming a mother in mid-30s+ and deciding the full-time daycare life is not for you or your kids comes with a huge dose of sunk cost (time and effort in career).

Delaying motherhood into late 30s for career reasons is extremely counterproductive because career progression and intellectual performance peak around 40. This then reinforces the narrative that “women can’t combine career and children” further delaying motherhood for many women. Having children before 30 is the best thing you can do for your career.

Eklatanter Unterschied.

Devout Orthodox families form a notable and growing share of large families in urban contexts in Russia often being supported by a parallel growing set of church networks. This is borne out in 2021 paper by St Tikhons in Moscow entitled "Sea of Life". The St. Tikhon’s study particularly underscores this dynamic. Additionally large families (3 + children) in Russia are expected to surpass 3 million this year.

Look, if you can afford to be a SAHM with no "side hustle" and you're happy, great. If you have a hobby that you can make extra money off of and are happy, great If you have to work part-time to help the family and are happy, great If you work full time and are happy, great

What? We do know how and why. How: massive petroleum reserve drawdowns Why: because China's economy is already sputtering and is massively dependent on manufacturing cost advantages and a big energy price shock could trigger a regime-ending recession Which may have been the US' actual goal.
Philippe Lemoine@phl43

It's kind of wild that China seems to have prevented the global energy market from blowing up by massively cutting its oil imports after Iran closed Hormuz, and they are still doing it at the moment, but we have no idea how or why they did it.

Egal was man an Arbeitsrecht und Familienpolitik ändert.

There are no kids in the picture. So she is working, he is working, he is financing her lifestyle. Were she not working and were she raising their (nonexistent) kids, she would clearly be providing something that he could not and there wouldn't be such stress. But she is working, they dont have kids, they do have a housekeeper. At some point, yeah it doesn't add up.

I know not everyone will combine every bank account, but why would you be married and still call it “my money” and “your money”? Do you split rooms in the house? Do you have “my bathroom” and “your bathroom”? Do you have separate custody days with your kids?

#Kindergeld #Beamte #Hamburg #Familienpolitik

But it genuinely isn’t true. As much as I detest much of the far right, I actually do have more in common with them. We attend similar churches. We raise our kids in broadly similar ways. We don’t murder infants or elders for being inconvenient. I truly *wish* I had more common ground with the center left! In many low-stakes ways, I do! I like educated, highbrow culture; I’m not a conspiracy theorist or anti-science nut; I believe in the project of liberty and democracy. But you don’t have to go very far left at all before you encounter views for which I would excommunicate someone from my church, so central to human dignity that there just is no use pretending like any joined hands are anything but tactical alliances on particular issues where we happen to have convergence. At the level of deep civilizational projects, *unfortunately* the center right does *not* have much in common with the center left. Mores the pity.
David French@DavidAFrench

The faster the center-right and the center-left realize that they have more in common with each other than with the extremists on their own "sides," the better off we'll be.

Feeling spicy so I'll just say what I know we're all thinking. Closing the monasteries and seizing clerical lands was a really good thing; the only problem with it was that states often didn't do it intentionally enough and allowed mobs to run the process.

@HannahWardEdu @Brian_Sauve Utah has below replacement level fertility, like 48 other states. I.e., the average woman is not even having 2 kids. So, probably not the best example for family formation.
