Explain to me why you should be able to inherit a £3 million tenancy without paying inheritance tax but not a £3 million house your parents actually bought and paid for.

National Trust warns Victoria Barracks (Sydney) sale leaves site with less protection than a post office. The government’s $2 billion defence site sale has sparked fury from the National Trust, which warns Australia’s “spiritual home of the Army” could vanish forever. dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/natio… #auspol

@DrewPavlou Aren’t the Scottish Greens pro disintegrating the nation? How can a country allow a foreign national to be elected to a parliament to then vote in favour of that country’s (which is bot his) secession? Madness.

@AGWhitnall There are so many Australian patriotic days around this time of year. The current version of the RAAF ensign was adopted on 6 May 1982 as well, which I’m sure you already know.

@australian Is he over 110 years old? How is he wearing Pip, Squeak and Wilfred? Or alternatively, if the Defence Medal is his, and he served, how does he not know that he shouldn’t wear his awards with someone else’s as if they’re all his?

The Anzac Day Dawn Services in Sydney and Melbourne have been marred by booing during the Welcome to Country acknowledgment. Indigenous serviceman Uncle Ray Minniecon, whose grandfather served in the Light Horse Brigade, continued to deliver the acknowledgment at the Martin Place service despite the loud booing which lasted for nearly a minute. He was applauded when he finished. Read the latest: bit.ly/496ggJ2

@liturgicalben And, although unfortunately never done, there is no reason the Prime Minister couldn’t ask the King to make a state visit. I think the PM should, especially is more efficient than sending the GG from the Southern Hemisphere (eg European state visits)

On St George's Day I attended what used to be called the 'Opening of the Law Year' church service. It was ... interesting ... to have contributions from Hindu, Bhuddist, Jewish, Sikh, Hare Krishna, Muslim, Sufi, Pagan, & Baha'i traditions in an 'interfaith' service in a church.

On this day in 1770, (19th April) 256 years ago, Captain James Cook first sighted the east coast of Australia aboard the Endeavour. A master navigator and a man of rare discipline, Cook charted vast stretches of the unknown with precision and nerve, pushing further than most would dare. His voyages opened up the Pacific, strengthened Britain’s standing in the world, and left a lasting mark on history. A fearless English explorer, steady, capable, and resolute. One of our greatest sons. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇧 🇦🇺

@chinafutureclub Not true. The majority of the population has never spoken with a broad accent, which is what you and the Chinese are thinking of (if they're even able to distinguish). In fact the general accent has become 'broader' over time. It's actually the cultivated accent that is dying.

The Australian accent is disappearing. Every day in China I’m asked where are you from and they are surprised when I say Australia. Most Aussies now have a “city” accent.
