The Anzac Day Dawn Services in Sydney and Melbourne have been marred by booing during the Welcome to Country acknowledgment. Indigenous serviceman Uncle Ray Minniecon, whose grandfather served in the Light Horse Brigade, continued to deliver the acknowledgment at the Martin Place service despite the loud booing which lasted for nearly a minute. Not entirely correct - the Governor-General of Australia can (and does) make state visits (and has been able to on behalf of Australia since 1926).

Seeing more matelots today than I do on other days I found myself wondering what I first posted about 5 years ago.

@chinafutureclub Not true. The majority of the population has never spoken with a broad accent, which is what you and the Chinese are thinking of (if they're even able to distinguish). In fact the general accent has become 'broader' over time. It's actually the cultivated accent that is dying.

The Australian accent is disappearing. Every day in China I’m asked where are you from and they are surprised when I say Australia. Most Aussies now have a “city” accent.
