I think this order is in line with what most of us were expecting. The Court could have done more? Yes. The Court could have done less? Yes. Is this a "win" for South Africa? Yes. Is it the best win of the century? No.

A momentus decision by the ICJ that is likely to start the political dynamics to end Israel's genocidal war on Gaza: there should not be an Israeli exception to the prevention of genocide. Some initial thoughts:

Initial reports indicate on 25 December, 2 people sheltering in @UNRWA Maghazi Prep School were killed & 1 injured, result of a direct strike. Since the war began, at least 308 people sheltering in @UNRWA shelters have been killed & 1,095 injured. Nowhere in📍#Gaza is safe.

At long last there is actual attention from the BBC and hopefully now people across the UK on the apartheid prison system in Israel that denies Palestinians rights to a fair trial, or even a charge, and locks children up - bbc.co.uk/news/world-mid…

Almost every line in this interview is another piece of shocking and depressing info about how differently the US government is treating this conflict from any other. The censorship and control, and dismissal of Palestinians at so many levels -

@marthasadie I absolutely agree. Across the whole spectrum of issues, considering impact before rushing to release would be nice. I would love to see companies learning from past mistakes. But *gestures broadly at capitalism*.
