😂 Here goes the myth about Russian traditional values and supposed spirituality. 🔽 “We used to have the flag of self-interest and a good life, and now we’ve suddenly been told it’s all about patriotism and spirituality.” — Dmitry Demushkin, leader of Russian nationalists (read: neo-Nazis) FYI: When Demushkin refers to “Russian patriots banning everything except owning property in the West,” he is talking about the State Duma deputies who recently failed to pass a ban on relatives of government officials owning foreign real estate. Also, the village of Barvikha that he mentions is one of the most elite settlements in Russia, located near Moscow.

@Dan_Jeffries1 I wonder if there is a single Western jurisdiction that has the guts to say "no" to all of that shit—KYC, AML (except police investigations based on probable cause), CBDC, Digital ID, cash/crypto restriction, replacement migration. And get all the business from around the world.

I don't know where this sudden push for ID checks online came from but it is clearly coordinated and influenced. There are two many people in too many places that suddenly got this awful idea at the same time. In America it is completely against the 4th amendment and your ability to access information which can only be limited in very narrow cases like access to adult content. Every time they want to steal more of your rights it's "save the children" or "stop the terrorists." This must be stopped or you'll be KYCed for browsing the web.

@Pirat_Nation I'm not going to update my backup software because I'm on the last free Macrium version, and AOMEI has enshittified. I will uninstall this Windows "security" patch.

Microsoft has confirmed that the April 2026 Patch Tuesday update is causing problems for many third-party backup tools on Windows 11. The update intentionally adds a specific kernel driver to the vulnerable driver blocklist for better security. Unfortunately, this change breaks Volume Shadow Copy Service functionality in several backup applications, leading to snapshot timeouts and failed backup or restore operations. Affected programs include: -Acronis Cyber Protect -Macrium Reflect -NinjaOne Backup -UrBackup, and others that rely on this driver. Microsoft recommends keeping the security update installed and contacting your backup software vendor for a compatible version that uses updated drivers. Uninstalling the patch is not advised as it leaves your system vulnerable. If your backups suddenly stopped working after the April updates, this is likely why.

@lzsthw Not a programmer or PL student here, just a lurker. To compare, is there an existing resource *you* would point to as a good beginner-level "Bjarne-brained" C++ course?

@maria_drutska Thank God not all vegetarians are this stupid. Too bad there are apparently enough stupid vegetarians* in Amsterdam to get this passed. * They may not even be actual vegetarians after all. Bugs for the populace, meat for the "chosen" ones.

Remember the security firm that Ubuntu hired to audit the (ill-advised, highly buggy) Rust-rewrites of all of the GNU Coreutils? Turns out that security firm is run by @gf_256, who: - Appears to be a man who thinks he's a woman ("trans"). - Uses an anime cartoon of a girl as his avatar. - Appears to have an OnlyFans page. I repeat: Ubuntu hired a "Trans" man, with an anime girl avatar and an OnlyFans page... to audit Rust code. It's hard to get more on-the-nose than that.

Someone on "Linkedin" claims FFmpeg has a "Chief Architect". We can confirm FFmpeg does not have a Chief Architect, not do we have any idea what the purpose of a Chief Architect is (outside of building design).

Up until a few years ago, we were able to browse the modern web, on a PowerPC “Classic” MacOS (MacOS 8/9) system, using a port of Firefox. This is no longer possible. Not because a G3, G4, or G5 systems running MacOS 9 are not beefy enough to handle the task (far from it)… but because of forced (deliberate) obsolescence by software developers. In this case, Mozilla injected a new (*still* unfinished) programming language (Rust) into Firefox. And Rust doesn’t support PowerPC Macs. Thus making a port of any version *after* the inclusion of Rust increasingly (and pointlessly) difficult. Add on top of that the ever changing standards around HTTPS, which render browsers only a few years old… effectively unable to use the modern web. Anyone who has tried to use Netscape recently knows what I mean. Again. Those changes are not because of CPU, RAM, or Operating System limitations. Purely artificial, forced constraints. This isn’t a problem unique to PPC Macs. Similar problems exist with recent UNIX workstations, Windows 2000, and even Linux from only a FEW years back. In some cases these forced constraints and limitations are simply a failure of developers. In other cases it is a deliberate choice… forced obsolescence. Either way… it makes me grumpy.

🇳🇴 A Syrian migrant found guilty of raping a 13-year-old Norwegian girl in a bike shed in Tromsø will serve just six months in prison after the sentencing court ruled that the attacker had a "low IQ" and "a reduced understanding of reality." Abdelmonem Abdelrazak Al-Yousef was found to have raped the girl in September 2024, less than a year after arriving in Norway from Syria. He met her in Tromsø city center before assaulting her on a park bench and leading her to a secluded bike shed near the Harbour Terminal where he raped her. He initially denied meeting the girl, but after semen was found at the scene and traced to him, he admitted to meeting the victim but not engaging in sexual activity. Psychiatric assessments showed he had a very low IQ, and the court ruled that "the defendant is most likely no further along in development than the victim." A change to Norwegian law last year removed the minimum prison sentence of three years for rape, allowing the court to impose a partial suspended sentence conditional on probation, meaning he will only serve six months inside.

🇷🇺 In Russia, Islamists attempted to create their own autonomous state. They were detained by special forces In the Dagestani village of Gubden, 11 locals were arrested on suspicion of establishing a radical religious enclave. They had set up a checkpoint at the entrance to the village, deciding who could enter and who was barred. At night, they completely blocked the road and installed a surveillance system around the perimeter. During the day, patrols enforced a strict “correct way of life.” Those who violated the rules were beaten. Eventually, special forces units arrived and carried out a raid. Nine suspects have been sent to pre-trial detention, while the court will decide the fate of the remaining two.
