@slaga_lm @kam2c @MpiloKhumalo_ No. Susan was a commoner, born outside chieftaincy. Mukhada would be someone like Tebogo, a non-venda speaking individual.

@MsNtuli @luphumlongcayis They're handinv over Life Orientation to teachers who can't even articulate what "career development" is. All this in the name if that the subject is easy and any teacher can teach it.
English

@luphumlongcayis I’m starting to question the existence of Life Orientation because surely that should be a key outcome of that curriculum from Grade 9 onwards.

It is not uncommon to find school leavers who do not know what to do after matric. Some don’t even know what colleges or universities expect as a bare minimum. I find this disturbing.
Yes, I’m ancient, but I do remember a time when there were guidance and career councillors in public schools who played a critical role in helping learners prepare for this transition and acted as a bridge between high schools, technikons and universities.
Today, many matriculants come from homes where no one has ever been to varsity or college, some come from child headed households and there’s no inherited knowledge about how these institutions work, how applications are processed, what funding looks like, or what is even realistic to aim for. In those homes, school is the only place where this information can be learned.
Which makes me wonder; surely schools must feel this gap? Surely they see the confusion, the missed deadlines, the poor subject choices, the panic in October? Or have we normalised sending young people into the world with a certificate and very little navigation?
I stand to be corrected.

I need to find a smokehouse in Joburg that does brisket and ribs like how the Americans do it. That’s the only thing they do well. 😭
