Google launched video sign-in. Record your face. Move your head. Google stores it encrypted. Get locked out. Record again. Google compares. You are in. Google already owns your search history. Your location. Your YouTube watch history. Your Gmail. Your Photos. Your face recognition data across millions of images. Now optionally: a multi-angle biometric facial scan with liveness detection. Your face is the one password you can never change. Google just asked you to store it with them. Google says the video is encrypted. Used only for sign-in. Deletable anytime. Then mentions an opt-in to let them use it to improve facial recognition. Translation: they will use it for facial recognition by default if you let them. The launch happened the same week Google got sued in California for fake reviews generated by AI. The same week a German court ruled Google liable for false information its AI generates. The same week the EU fined Google €2.4 billion. The company asking you to biometrically authenticate. Is having a week where every court on earth is telling them they cannot be trusted. But they want your face anyway. Encrypted. Stored. Tied to your account forever. If Google gets breached. Your face is compromised. Unlike a password. You cannot change your face. You cannot get a new one. Google is asking you to hand over the one thing you can never recover. For the convenience of account recovery.

Google just launched selfie video sign-in. You record a short video with guided head movements. Google stores it encrypted. if you get locked out, you record another one. Google compares the two. you're in. it's opt-in. account recovery only. not your primary login. now the privacy questions nobody in the launch coverage is asking: Google already has: — your search history — your location history — your YouTube watch history — your Gmail — your Google Photos, including face recognition across all your images — your voice from Google Assistant now optionally: a multi-angle biometric facial scan with liveness data. Google says the video is encrypted, used only for sign-in by default, and deletable at any time. there's an opt-in to let them use it to improve facial recognition. also worth noting: this launches the same week Google is being sued in California for using AI to generate fake reviews. the same week a German court ruled Google is liable for false information its AI generates. the same week the EU fined Google €2.4 billion. the company asking you to record your face for account recovery is having a week. your face is the one password you can never change. that's always been true. Google just asked you to store it with them.

@Michael951413 Gun laws affect only law abiding citizens. Criminals if they want, can “source” even rocket launchers and machine guns. Any extra restrictions simply strips people of their ability to defend themselves—against both criminals and state overreach.
