Why do so many women dislike making the first move? Cockiness. I've seen this in young women many times. She's confident. She asks out a guy she finds attractive. And he...transforms into a cocky, condescending, smug little bitch 😅 This is a jarring experience for her. She thought she was helping out a shy guy with the first move or just expressing interest. She expected to simply date after that...but the power dynamic in his head shifted. He's the prize. Not all men behave like this. But even some guys who aren't swimming in women do. There's also the risk factor for women of getting involved with a man who's not that into her. Let's say a guy isn't interested in her & never would have asked her out...but she did. Plenty of guys think a woman's interest means easy sex at a minimum. He's not into her, but he can make use of her. If she'd never asked him out, he would have left her alone, but she did, so now she's an easy target. It's unfortunate, but women often find that the men who ask *us* out are typically more interested & invested than guys who couldn't be bothered. Are there exceptions? Of course! Many! But women often grow cautious based on sad life experience or stories from other women, not in a vacuum. So we learn to indirectly signal interest. Smile at the guy at the bar; don't approach. Like his stories on Instagram; don't DM. Talk to the cute guy at a party...don't ask him out. "If he wanted to, he would." It's an oversimplification but true more often than not. I do encourage women to be way more obvious in flirting than they are comfortable with, cuz men can have a hard time reading cues. But the first direct move? Meh.
