The victim of a serious assault that occurred earlier this week in the northeast community of Pineridge has succumbed to her injuries.
An autopsy was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner today, Thursday, April 2, 2026.
As this incident is domestic in nature, to protect the privacy of the victim’s family & the identity of the youth offender, the victim’s name will not be released. The victim is the accused’s grandmother.
📍 At approx. 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026, we were called for reports of an altercation occurring in a residence in Pineridge. Upon arrival, a woman in her 50s was located in medical distress & transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where she later died.
📌 A 15-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with 1 count of aggravated assault & 1 count of mischief to property under $5,000. The teen cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Charges are expected to be upgraded at the teen’s next court appearance on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling the non-emergency number.

🔵 ONGOING INVESTIGATION 🔵
We are investigating a fatal altercation that occurred this afternoon in northwest Calgary.
📍At approximately 4:15 p.m., today, Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, we were called to the 0 to 100 block of Edgemont Court N.W., for reports of an altercation inside a residence. Upon arrival, police located a man in his 40s in medical distress, as well as a woman in her 30s who had sustained injuries. Despite efforts of first responders, the man was pronounced deceased on scene. The woman was transported to hospital in stable condition.
An autopsy will be conducted by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.
At this time no one is in custody & police are not looking for any suspects.
Investigators are in the process of working to determine the circumstances that led up to the altercation. No further details are available at this time.

I am very sad and disappointed to hear that after all the efforts to deal with the Houthis, they are still shooting ballistic missiles at our friends in Israel.
I expect Israel will respond and I will not be surprised if they hold Iran accountable — not just the Houthis.
It also appears that Russia is firing ballistic missiles at Ukraine. As Ukraine agrees to a ceasefire and direct talks between leaders, Putin’s Russia plays games and shoots missiles.
I appreciate President Trump trying to pursue peace on multiple fronts, however we must hold bad actors accountable when they defy these efforts.

To clarify the charges laid in this incident, attempted robbery involves having the intent to take property or belongings from someone & can include using force, a weapon, or violence to intimidate a person. However, in an attempted robbery, the individual will not have been successful in stealing or taking items from the victim. Any force used still forms part of the overall charge & is more serious than an assault charge.
The incident occurred at the City Hall/Bow Valley College CTrain station rather than the Third Street CTrain station.

We are aware of a video circulating on social media that depicts an incident involving a woman standing on a downtown CTrain station platform. 📍On Sunday, March 23, 2025, at approx. 1:40 p.m., the victim was standing on the south side of the Third Street S.E. CTrain station, located at 310C Seventh Ave. S.E., when she was approached by an unknown man who grabbed her water bottle & splashed her in the face with it. He then grabbed her & began shaking her while demanding her cellphone. The man fled the scene without the victim’s cellphone & the victim subsequently called police. Witnesses helped locate the suspect & a short time later the man was arrested in East Village. 📌 As a result, Braydon Joseph James FRENCH, 31, of Calgary, has been charged with 1 count of attempted robbery. At this time the incident is not believed to be racially motivated, however, our Diversity Resource Team is engaging with those in the community who are impacted by this incident. The victim has been offered supports & is respectfully asking for privacy. “Thanks to the support of witnesses in the area & to the swift actions of our members, we were able to make an arrest within 25 minutes of this incident,” says Calgary Police Service District 1 Inspector Jason Bobrowich. “These types of incidents cause concern in the community & will not be tolerated in our city.”

Special Area # 2 near Spondin and Scapa.
At 3:14 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. Doppler radar indicates a potential tornado near Spondin and is tracking to the southeast at 50 km/h.
This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.
If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately.
Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet
Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can
As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris
