Federal Indictment Names Don Lemon in Minnesota Church Disruption Case A federal grand jury in Minnesota has indicted Don Lemon and eight others in connection with a January 2026 disruption of a Christian worship service in St. Paul, according to newly filed court documents. The indictment, filed January 29, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, was brought by prosecutors from @TheJusticeDept and the @CivilRights division of the Department of Justice. The defendants are charged with Conspiracy Against Rights and Interference with the Exercise of Religious Freedom at a Place of Worship, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 241 and 248. Alleged “Takeover-Style” Church Disruption According to the indictment, on the morning of January 18, 2026, approximately 20–40 individuals entered a Christian church during an active Sunday worship service. Federal prosecutors describe the incident as a: “coordinated takeover-style attack” The indictment alleges the group engaged in: “acts of oppression, intimidation, threats, interference, and physical obstruction” which forced the service to be terminated and caused congregants to flee “out of fear for their safety.” Prosecutors Allege Don Lemon Livestreamed the Operation Federal prosecutors allege that Don Lemon livestreamed portions of the operation on his internet program, TheDonLemonShow, while the group was preparing to enter the church. From Overt Act #5 of the indictment, prosecutors state that Lemon told his audience he was in Minnesota with an organization preparing for a “resistance” operation and took steps to maintain operational secrecy. The indictment further alleges Lemon cautioned participants and viewers: “We’re not going to give any of the information away.” “The Whole Point Is to Disrupt,” Prosecutors Say According to Overt Act #21, prosecutors allege Lemon later acknowledged the purpose of the action, stating: “The whole point [of the operation] is to disrupt.” Once inside the church, the indictment alleges the disruption escalated, with chanting that included: “ICE Out,” “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot,” and “Stand Up, Fight Back.” Congregants and church leadership allegedly perceived the conduct as threatening and intimidating. Alleged Confrontation With Pastor The indictment further alleges Lemon personally confronted the church’s pastor, standing so close that physical contact occurred. According to prosecutors, Lemon then admonished the pastor: “Please don’t push me.” Despite requests from church leadership to leave the premises, prosecutors allege Lemon and other defendants did not immediately exit the building. Impact on Congregants, Including Children Federal prosecutors state the incident caused congregants — including families with children — to flee the church. The indictment recounts that one child asked whether their parents were “going to die.” The government further alleges that the conduct resulted in bodily injury to at least one congregant. Charges and Legal Status Under Count Two of the indictment, all defendants — including Don Lemon — are charged with: “intentionally injur[ing], intimidat[ing], and interfer[ing] with… persons lawfully exercising the First Amendment right of religious freedom at a place of religious worship.” The indictment was returned as a “TRUE BILL” by the grand jury and is signed by senior officials from @TheJusticeDept, including leadership within the Civil Rights Division.
