@NiamhingramNHS Always hard to be on the receiving end of such frustration. Callers aren’t always receptive to hear the answer to a query especially if it doesn’t fit with their expectations.

Was told by a patient that they wanted to speak to a ‘proper’ manager over the age of 50 today. I was stunned and didn’t know what to say as I had gone out of my way to try and help them. Any advice on how best to tackle undertones of age discrimination in the workplace?

@NiamhingramNHS Hi Niamh, sorry to hear that, it definitely happens, I have been on the end of that as well. I would normally recommend reaffirming that you are the most appropriate person to handle this and your age has nothing to do with it.

@NiamhingramNHS Sorry you experienced this today - I’ve had similar, from colleagues as well as pts! Remember it’s not a reflection on you, it’s a reflection of their biases and judgements!! I try and call it out when I experience it, but it’s super hard to do in the moment!
