A head coach selecting within the top five of the 2026 NFL Draft cut off SNY's Connor Hughes when asked about the Giants and the fifth overall pick by saying: "They're taking [Caleb] Downs." More from Connor on the Giants' options: "While not an elite athlete, Downs is remarkably smart, tough, dependable and capable of anchoring the back-end of a secondary for the next decade. There is a caveat here: Jeremiyah Love is believed to be the player the Giants want the most, from talking to teams. He’s likely the pick if he finds his way to No. 5. That just seems unlikely. The Giants have done a ton of work on wideout Jordyn Tyson, but those injury concerns make him such a risk this early. Carnell Tate is a far safer pass catcher, but more limited physically. 'The problem with these two is it’s easy to see how it goes wrong,' a coach said. 'Tate if he doesn’t develop, Tyson if he can’t stay healthy. You have egg on your face.' Give Downs to New York."
