Hello, my new followers. Since that random post went viral (well, viral *for me*), I figured I’d introduce myself and give you a chance to unfollow.
I’m ordained American Baptist.
I’m Wesleyan in most things sans baptism and ecclesiology.
I’m evangelical, egalitarian, and hold to a traditional sexual ethic.
I’m basically a New Testament theologian.
Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox are fellow Christians, and I love talking with serious folks in those sides of the Christian family.
My first two degrees were film degrees, so you may get the occasional movie take.
I’m married to Allison and we’re mom and dad to a five year old and a soon-to-be-born little one.
I pastor in the Greater Los Angeles area.
I homebrew.
My PhD (ABD) is on the New Testament and Universal Salvation (no, not a universalist).
I have too much grey in my beard.
I’m also buds with @thechurchsplit and @DPGBehler and @jdpritchett so you can tell my sense of humor is broken.
Nice to meet y’all.

@andrewdjudd I feel like this is the answer we’ve all been waiting for.

Describe the current state of mainline theology with two words:
“LiViNg wAtEr”
Protestia@Protestia
Episcopal pastor says Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well were FLIRTING, because Jesus' use of the term 'Living Water' is actually a double entendre and a 'first century euphemism for 'SEMEN.'
English

@NickQuient The irony that some people demand wine but are cool with a stale wafer shouldn't be lost on anyone.
I think it should be a full meal. Break bread as family and remember why/how we are family.
English

@TaylorRMarshall @ConceptualJames This makes you look stewpid. Just stop.
English

.@ConceptualJames Do you receive $7,000 for each of your posts attacking Christians? Or is it 30 pieces of silver?

James Lindsay, anti-Communist@ConceptualJames
I'm sure this guy wonders why so few people like him. Maybe if he removed the beam from his own eye, he could see. Who knows? Seems stupid too.
English

@NickQuient Traditionally, the accommodation is that to receive in part is to receive in full. People can receive the bread alone for any reason—I have done so while on an antibiotic that is contraindicated with even tiny amounts of alcohol.
English

@becomelutheran I haven’t watched this (just don’t have time) but wanted to give respect for your use of “changed” versus “converted” in your comment.
Cheers.

Here is a short video of why I changed from Baptist to Lutheran, or at least the big moment that got it started.

@TheologyLiz Does “not normative” extend to those who have ethical issues with alcohol or were alcoholics?
I suppose it depends on how far one presses the Eucharists as well. I’m a memorialist so I’m not always looking for strict correspondence.
English

@NickQuient Certainly should not be normative. The alcohol content matters—it's not merely about the grapes or the fact that it's red like blood, it points toward a wedding feast.
