AT have been so focussed on cycleways that 80% of the cycleways previous councils planned to build between 2007 and 2012 are still not built. stuff.co.nz/national/polit…

@parsley72 When I was suffering from burnout and debating quitting software, this was the conversation I had with myself.

@JulieAnneGenter But it's well and truly time for the petrol tax break to end, we need to accelerate our independence from fossil fuels and price seems to be the only lever which changes behaviour.

@JulieAnneGenter I remember when the subsidies went into place we were just seeing petrol prices over $3 a litre, then after the subsidy commodity prices fell and pump prices continued to rise. It's done its job of softening the economic blow and giving people time to change their behaviour.

Extension to half-price public transport good. Extension to petrol & diesel subsidies ... really not what we need in 2022. There are much better ways to help families struggling with high cost-of-living, like direct cash payments.

Most light rail projects take ~3 years to build. Had the govt just continued their initial plan instead of getting distracted by tunnel fantasies they'd be opening it between the city & Mt Roslill this year. With the focus on tunnels we'll be lucky to see anything before 2030

@nz_walker I was already a proponent of livable streets and walkable neighbourhoods, but being a dad made me that much more aware of how unsafe our streets are, and how vulnerable kids are out there.

@nz_walker Alternatively if they'll take a dummy then use that on take off and landing.

@nz_walker We took our eldest to Europe when she was 6 months. Ideal because she'd started solids (didn't breastfeed), and the airlines don't charge that much for infants. Protip: if you can try and time feeds for takeoff, it'll stimulate jaw movement which should equalise sinus pressure.

@GreaterAKL Bold of you to assume there will actually be enforcement. Most drivers will probably just feign ignorance.

Do it properly and close the whole street, not this tiny section that will be abused and then lead to an inevitable Orsman article moaning that it's unfair drivers get fined for using it. It's almost like they want it to fail.
Auckland Transport@AklTransport

From Sunday 3 July the area between the Civic Theatre on Wellesley Street and the Town Hall at the intersection of Wakefield Street will become an Essential Vehicle Area (EVA) and will apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Find out that means below or at: AT.govt.nz/betterwaydrivi…
