@aucklandzwitsch @HaydenDonnell @Trabaq They are killed by cars. Exactly 0 pedestrians have died in NZ after being struck by an e-scooter. Ever. Around 30 pedestrians are killed by motor vehicles each year. E-scooters are not the problem.

Once again I think it would be good if the media talking about harm caused by e-scooters showed one iota of the same concern about the damage caused by cars, which inflicted $2.2 billion worth of injuries in the time it took to accrue the $26 million of scooter claims quoted here

@Ka_eke_Pahikara @aotearoa_ben Good luck travelling to sites all over Auckland on a bicycle in a timely manner. Try go to whangaparaoa then to Titirangi and see how upset your clients get when you’re 4 hours late :)

@GraeSullivan @SikotiHamiltonR So on your basis the colonisers also didn't engage in science, seeing as the first double blind experiment was in 1835? Newton, Huygens, Dalton et al = not scientists? What about Darwin. I guess we should stop teaching any of their stuff?

@SikotiHamiltonR Knowledge gained via observation is not scientific on it's own. It can become scientific if that observation was conducted via a rigorous process which includes double blind controlled experimentation. Did the observations you are referencing undergo such a process?

1/18 Richard Dawkins & his allies have been attacking the idea that Polynesians gained scientific knowledge during their thousands of years exploring the Pacific & settling lands like Aotearoa. Dawkins et al regard such an idea as a 21st C, 'woke' phenomenon. They're badly wrong

@flightlessrobot Cyclists are trapped in them so can't pass or avoid hazards. If 2 cars travelling at 100km only need rumble strips to stop crossing lane why do we need concrete barriers. They are 300mm wide and 200mm high. Over engineered and not necessary.

ONE PER CENT. That’s all that’s allocated to cycling in Auckland’s Transport budget & those cycling projects get delayed & cancelled anyhow. People have somehow got the impression so much is being “wasted” on cycling, when it’s simply not true. We’re well behind most cities.

We must invest in adaptation AND reduce our emissions. This is our world at 1.1 degrees of warming. To realistically adapt & live we must try limit warming to 1.5C We are currently headed to 2.5C 100 small nations including NZ make up 33% of global emissions. We all must act.

This is a direct consequence of decisions made by ATs Investment and Planning department, headed by Jenny Chetwynd and managed by Hamish Bunn - a name you might know from this excellent @HaydenDonnell breakdown: metromag.co.nz/city-life/city…

I hate how the lower end of Queen St is now almost solely inhabited by luxury brands. Feels like I have to walk through a corridor where I'm not welcome every time I arrive in the city.

This is the flood report you won't see on the news. We have to admit to the problem so we can change. Our farmers are stuck in the deeply flawed systems set up by settlers & our government is beholden to those who profit from them. We need radical change. #CycloneGabrielle

The govt collected $81.6m in income tax from 16/17YOs last year, despite them having absolutely no say in how that is collected or spent. Taxation without representation just ain’t right

Kia ora koutou. I'm set up as @publicaddress@mastodon.nz on Mastodon and I'll do some tooting there if this ship sinks. But I feel like it won't be as frequent as my Twitter activity. I might just get more work done and go for more bike rides.

@ClimateHuman The problem is that these negotiations are non-binding. The COP should be regarded as an attempt to reach an amicable agreement. If that fails, the consequence should not be total impunity, but full liability.
