Looks like the bags were filled with beach sand and maybe cement as they're rock solid now but the stones etc in it looks native to the beach itself. The step into it is still there and the firing port. The interesting tear drop shape is cool too. The were also

Pre-parenthood, I used to treat the viewing of a film at home with the same sanctity I would a trip to the cinema - watched uninterrupted and in full Now, if the film is longer than 2hrs 20mins, we will watch it across multiple evenings. Non-negotiable.

Guinevere's Guide to pronouncing Northumbrian place names like a local. Eglingham. Egg ling jum/ Egg lin jum. No ham. No eggs either. Means "the homestead at or called Ecgwulfing/the place called after Ecgwulf." Recorded as Ecgwulfincham 1040 which is a bit of a mouthful !
Steve Ellwood@TyneSnapper

#Eglingham #Northumberland On this day 9th December 2001 a wander around St Maurice's Church, Eglingham, Northumberland. Grade II* Listed. Pevsner describes the church as ‘much restored but picturesque; a particularly complicated mix of medieval and post medieval builds’.

I did College ⬇️ recently. I'll repost. Hethpool though. Recorded at Hetpol 1242. Heth is Middle English for height & also for heath (open uncultivated ground, a tract of wilderness etc). Here it could be either, both or something else entirely ! It's a mystery....
N'land National Park@NlandNP

Visit the College Valley, home of stunning scenery and many amazing ruins of ancient hillforts. Enjoy this view from the top of Great Hetha looking back towards Hethpool. To plan your visit to the College Valley, visit our website.

The beautifully secluded and atmospheric chapel of the Holy Trinity in Old Bewick. It seems to have been founded by Matilda, the wife of Henry I, and daughter of Malcolm III of Scotland (as in ‘Macbeth’), in memory of her father, who’d been ambushed and slain outside Alnwick.

@JHCPAL An old merchant navy fella told me about them over a pint in the John Bull in Alnwick. He’d sailed past them many times and was amazed none of us in the pub had ever heard of them 👍🏻

@JHCPAL Check out the Northumberland Islands off Queensland, Australia. Named by Matthew Flinders for the 1st Duke (4th Duke’s granda), there’s some crackers - especially in the Duke Islands group. They certainly get around don’t they! 🌙

Wonders how Prudhoe came to find itself in Alaska. Googles. Falls over in astonishment.....named for Captain Algernon Percy, Baron Prudhoe. Later the 4th Duke. As I say regularly, you are NEVER far from a Percy...though even I wasn't expecting to find one in Alaska.
