@NigelKBaker @DJSnM To some extent, I suspect Musk believes it makes sense because it's necessary to create a nominal synergy between SpaceX and xAI, so the more successful company can bail out the less successful.

Rather than arguing based on 'feels' or asking AI to make up an answer that sounds plausable, I actually did some math on cooling data centers in space, while explaining the basics of thermal balance. patreon.com/posts/cooling-… Shame I overestimated the size of the spacecraft, but, the numbers are at least in the right ball park.

@elonmusk @ID_AA_Carmack A counterexample would be *The Player of Games* by Banks. Gurgeh represents an individual with high agency (and high skill) but selective partnership with AI. Once AI is truly superintelligent and aligned, it won’t just favour soulless obedience. Or so I’d like to think.

The modern age has richly rewarded people with a combination of high intelligence and high agency. Now that many aspects of intelligence are successfully being automated, it seems likely that people with relatively lower intelligence but exceptional agency will come into their own if they are willing to egolessly accept AI advice. Imagine a ruthless criminal that completely trusts everything their always-on AI glasses are telling them, knowing that it is carefully looking out for their best interests and isn’t scheming to betray them.

I still have many of the mass market paperback books I read as a teenager in the 80’s. Trade paperbacks are still alive, but yeah, it is the fading of an age.
