Today, we unveiled our completed Critical Test Reactor facility.
This commercial-scale reactor with fuel to produce 10 MW of electricity was assembled on site from modular components to conclude a net ~70 day timeline from a desert plot to a reactor, reactor facility, and command & control center.
Nuclear fuel will arrive soon and, pending final DOE approval, we will go critical before the @POTUS July 4th deadline.
Here's a first look at some of the work that has gone into this unveiling:

@sethbannon @AaloAtomics at this power level too! not chump change. never seen anything like it
English

An altar of progress.
3 year old @AaloAtomics has already built their first nuclear reactor. Seen here in their now complete Critical Test Reactor facility, where they'll turn it on by July 4.

English

@sovereignsuitor not to those in energy but those in software probably yes, but that should change soon!
English

@Julian Fascinating! Would you say this initiative is flying under the radar? With so many eyeballs on AI I feel these other sectors aren't getting the spotlight they deserve for their efforts to advance their industries.
English

in case you're unaware: matt started a company called aalo that's making nuclear reactors to provide unlimited energy. they turn on a reactor THIS YEAR. modern nuclear is almost here. they solve the problems of slow build times and safety. the factory pumps out hundreds per year

NEW VIDEO Sodium coolant is the nuclear equivalent of landing a rocket: More challenging than water or gas, but once mastered, unlocks incredible economics. Here's a first look at some of the work we've been doing behind the scenes to conquer sodium.

@gilbert @chrisfralic hmm i did not realize it'd be noticeably snappier
perhaps time to upgrade
English

@chrisfralic I just made the same jump and feel exactly the same way. The snappiness makes it feel like the whole product changed.

JUST IN: Today at INL's desert Site, @AaloAtomics unveiled its Critical Test Reactor facility – home to Aalo-X, a next-gen advanced #NuclearReactor – culminating years of @INL, Aalo & @ENERGY collaboration. ⚛️
Aalo plans to use Aalo-X to test & optimize future #nuclear tech.

Big news out of Idaho from @AaloAtomics!

i live on ranch, and it cost me less than buying an apartment in california. the downside is isolation from city life. if that doesn't bother you, quality of life shoots up. you'll become obsessed with animals 😂 i have 2 mini cows, mini horses, poodles. must stop, but...
learning to train them is too fun.
i've included a video of my mini cow giving "hello friend" head nods to my new mini horse
i'm also building a soundshed on the property with two hifi audio systems to incept my friends to fall in love with the hobby.
over time, you also become interested in being off grid. think solar, starlink, rain catchment, cattle + chickens, herb + fruit + veggie garden.
life slows down and you start to value building these skills—to self-sustain.
going outside between Zoom calls and just looking at the trees and hearing wind rustle through them is so calming. this is how i grow up. shouldn't have done a full 15 years in the city in between.
i've built a bunch of guest cabins, and friends can come stay for a couple weeks at a time. i put guitars + pianos + hifi in their cabins so they can feel creative
next up is a giant golf cart racing course that traverses through the property

English

@Julian Agreed!
Strange but good feeling to know you will get along with somebody you have never met... Have you ever been to a Jacob Collier concert?
English

@Julian How much meat u get off a mini cow? I mean it’s good to eat?
English

@Julian Love it. We have done the same. Would love to see your cabins. Do they have running water/electricity/sewer?

She’s a sweetie. Her owners never came to see her in the 5 months I was staying at the property where there are 19 horses and a burro called Walter. Walter and Annie are at the bottom of the food chain, and get bullied by the others. Very sad. They’re my faves, obviously 🙄
I lost my dog, Rupert, to cancer just over a year ago, and I moved to this property in Tucson for my own cancer treatment. So Annie became my surrogate for Rupert. Id get up from my desk 5-6 times a day to go chat with her for a while. After a couple weeks, she’d always be looking my way from her stall. Sweet thing.
I’m hopefully moving back there in a week or so, but discovered a few days ago that she’s been put on the market. Not expensive, but timing not good for me financially.
Hopefully nobody sees the ad, otherwise it’ll just be Walter and I. He’s aloof, not a snuggler. I have these guys to talk to where I am at the moment 😊

@CurtTigges people still think nuclear is legacy—huge, slow. they need proof the new startups can deliver like they say. that proof begins to come this year
English

@Julian if this is likely to be as transformative as you suggest, what's the most likely reason there aren't any forecasts about power bottlenecks for datacenters taking it into account?
English

@Willob Norcal is the best. Perfect weather, nice views, proximity to the city. Only concern is wildfire risk
English

@Julian Love this. What part of the world is this?
Planning to do the same myself in the coming years! Looking at plots within a few hours drive of the Bay Area.
English

@dnlmr Oh man those are two of the greats. Also love bonobos and Matt corby
English

@Julian This is so lovely! 🥰
'What kinda music' is both a question and recommendation (Tom Misch, Youssef Dayes).
