Iran executed at least 1,639 people in 2025, the highest number since 1989, NGOs say. The number of executions represented an increase of 68% on the 975 people Iran put to death in 2024 u.afp.com/SEqW

@pip_net Nutrition epidemiologist here. This has more to do with the classification of malnutrition mortality as a result of illness or surgery recovery than what you think of... which is protein energy malnutrition driven by poverty and infectious disease.

Another “big win” - the U.S. has overtaken China, Vietnam, North Korea and Pakistan in terms of mortality due to malnutrition. GDP growth and S&P500 returns are one thing. Distribution of prosperity is an entirely different story.

We don't know the real number of casualties in IR's January massacre, bc they don't allow reporters or investigators to look into it. HRANA reported over +6,500. This is the same source we use for the US/isrsel war on Iran, so far reporting +1,500 civilian casualties.
Yashar Ali 🐘@yashar

So he’s gone from 32,000 to 45,000. Iranians in the diaspora often use different numbers, typically ranging from 32,000 to 100,000. I’ve heard Iranians cite 32,000, 40,000, 45,000, 50,000, and 65,000. Two weeks ago, a misogynistic Iranian influencer went on Israeli television and said 200,000. This all leads to a tremendous loss of credibility. The facts are brutal enough: Many thousands of Iranians were massacred by the regime in January. Every human rights organization that covers Iran — including ones often referenced by leftists in other countries and conflicts — has documented the regime carrying out a massacre on an industrial scale. Every major news organization has documented this massacre using geolocated and verified video, along with other evidence. Verified video after verified video shows the regime using military-grade weapons to carry out the massacre. Verified video after verified video shows bodies piled up in the aftermath of the January 8–10 protests. Firsthand accounts also confirm the regime carried out a massacre. Currently, HRANA (which is aggressively documenting civilians killed due to U.S. and Israeli bombing) has over 17,000 deaths either verified or in the process of verification. I suspect the eventual number will be higher, but we must be careful in how we talk about this.

@danielfoch @JimChuong I said that the figures was "views on fellow citizens". You shared a post that says compared to Americans, Canadians are "hatred filled". The data counters that. On the happiness report - Canada and US are statistically tied: 1.1% difference. No evidence for anyone's anecdotes.

It’s my experience that Americans are 100% friendlier, and more tolerant than Canadians right now. Canadians are unhappy all the time because they’re broke. They have no money. As a Canadian, my travels to the U.S. have had no issues. Anyone that says otherwise is lying - they don’t know. I wish Canadians the best in removing the hate from their hearts 🇨🇦❤️

@Workshops4Gaza This logic also applied to Atefeh Sahaaleh when she was executed by the government. She was charged for the crime of being raped and her behaviour led to execution. She was 16! "the judge just looked at Sahaaleh's body, because of the developed physique ...declared her as 22"

I am telling you, see how the same people who support targeted bombing at the regime, which is not really risk-free for civilians (yet do support), would turn against you when you start targeting the infrastructure.
Omid Memarian@Omid_M

This is so sick. This is not about going after the regime. It’s going against the people of Iran. So pathetic. Destroying Iran’s infrastructure that belongs to the nation, to the people of Iran, not the regime, reveals who is running the war and why. IRAN is the target. IRAN!

What has happened in Iran is a disaster in every sense of the word. I am not stating this lightheartedly, in 6 years of Middle East reporting I have seen all shades of evil, all variations of torture and killing. It is sickening to see Iranians arguing over concepts, words and identities while Iran is falling down an abyss. Stop it now.
