Those who claim that Ireland is some kind of hellhole should check out our ranking on the UN’s Human Development Index & do please note that most of the countries at the top of that index are ones that have a tradition of receiving immigrants.

Immigration has been a positive thing for Ireland. We continue to need the skill sets that immigrants bring. Populists are those who offer simple solutions to complex problems. Immigration is an issue that needs to be managed just like all other public policy issues. My preference is to manage it from the pragmatic centre ground.

Once the new 10c reduction comes into affect tonight, this will bring prices in Ireland down this table further. Price of oil going up is negating that, however.

So I paid €500 to DCU to secure my place for the 2026 January intake, but things didn’t work out and I couldn’t leave Gaza to complete my studies. The thing is I’m 100% sure that it was stated that the €500 were refundable in case I couldn’t come to DCU and now they’re saying that the money can’t be refunded.
We’re going through the worst conditions here in Gaza, living in a shitty house because we can’t afford paying rent for a better place and now I should sit here and accept the fact that I can’t simply get my money back?
As if everything else going on my life wasn’t enough already.

@CelticSceptic @PaulSommerville Multi generation mortgages are not a bad Idea at all.
The person inheriting the property would have a house with a small mortgage while their parents could have a much smaller monthly repayment meaning they get a better quality of life.
Of course the downside is..
