@SamuelDesh_ @CPhilpOfficial There was no "promise", otherwise please share. Just an expectation that you could use the abused care route as a way to gain residence in the UK. You are part of the problem- selling "courses" to help immigrants game NHS recruitment to get visa sponsorship to stay in the UK

@CPhilpOfficial Dead this idea already. It will definitely not happen. Do not be inhumane. Legal migrants came here with a promise from the government. This promise will be kept 100% and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Shabana Mahmood said previously that people in the UK already would have to wait ten years to get ILR no matter when they arrived. She must stand by her commitment Millions of low-wage or no-wage economic migrants here already will otherwise get the right to stay forever. People who came here on a temporary work visa do not have a god-given right to stay in the UK forever If they have not been working on high salaries then at the end of their temporary work visa they should not be allowed to stay forever - but instead should leave If Shabana Mahmood is serious about reducing immigration she must stand by her own promises. Otherwise she will just be another Labour politician pushed around by left-wing backbenchers

Burnham could ditch tougher settlement rules for migrants already in UK trib.al/0AfeSXs

More lies from the unelected nobody. This is the opposite of what's on record. Burnham has backed Mahmood's reforms throughout, including the ILR extension from 5 to 10 years, which he's described as necessary for "meaningful integration." His own party's left has criticised him for being too tough on this, not too soft. There's no source for "already moving to scrap" anything, this hasn't even been announced as government policy yet, he's still caretaker-in-waiting.

Andy Burnham is ALREADY moving to grant the Boriswave of millions of unskilled migrants lifetime access to our welfare state by scrapping Mahmood’s ILR reforms. This will cost the British taxpayer billions. He is going to be even worse than Starmer. CALL A GENERAL ELECTION.

@blexbekene @Zeeshyttt @PolitlcsUK @theipaper Because this is my home. I didn't ask you to denounce your Nigerian citizenship I asked why you didn't move to Canada if you know that the path to permanent residence is shorter. It makes more sense rather than expecting the UK to soften its immigration policies to suit you.

@faultycontainer @CHIKADIBIA___ @linmeitalks Definitely. Many had children as soon as they came into the country, believing that the baby would be British by birth and/or give them a stronger chance of staying in the country

Then they should remain on working visas. Why should they have access to citizenship or public services. How is it anything to do with slavery?? They’ll continue to work and support themselves without ever being able to rely on welfare.
LISTENER (I no speak again)@CHIKADIBIA___

@linmeitalks You are extremely misinformed, these are normal legal migrants that come in here to work.. It is modern Slavery to change from an original 5year route to 10years route,so any Government can change the 10years to 20years. Most of them don't want even public funds

@linmeitalks These migrants are also taxpayers, they contribute in all sense of the word. The Government can easily take out the access to benefits for ILR holders, what then will you people complain about? Y'all are so bigoted and uninformed that you misrepresent legal and illegal migrants..

Maybe if migrants have worked here for over 10 years they should be then able to pay £50pm, which will allow them to use basic elements of the NHS, apply for welfare for a set period of time if they lose their job, but no social housing etc Like a migrant insurance for access to British public services, but no millions should not be able to access public services just because.

@CHIKADIBIA___ @linmeitalks The sponsorship system has been in place for decades & wasn't an issue until the Boriswave. Welfare comes in as soon as the Boriswave get ILR.Most are on lower incomes & will qualify for most types of welfare such as child benefit and universal credit (even if they are working)

@linmeitalks Or the state don't treat them like slaves and don't allow there work Visas tied to there employers in the exploitative sponsorships. You clearly don't understand the details on this issue at all,how can people who work rely on state welfare?

@PeterStefanovi2 Peter, I wish someone would properly look into these new ILR rules. Requiring a B2 English qualification is completely unreasonable for many people who have lived and worked here for years. This proposal needs serious scrutiny.

Shabana Mahmood’s plans to make migrants wait longer before they can permanently remain in the UK are “manifestly unfair” and potentially “unlawful”, a Lords committee has said telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/06/2…

@emexodoms @Luke20240201 @cgdav135 No, the visas were given in good faith before the Home Office was aware of the abuse in the system. Immigrants from countries like Nigeria &Bangladesh were selling and buying certificates of sponsorship which are needed in order to apply for a visa(Which you're likely aware of)

@blexbekene @Zeeshyttt @PolitlcsUK @theipaper Then why didn't you go to Canada/other countries? Most care workers switched in country. They came as masters students with their families (Japa) and then switched to care visas to remain in the UK as care was/is one of the easiest and cheapest sectors to get sponsored in

Under the conditions you set out for them at the point of entry when you welcome them with open arms , which are the condition you have set out since 1980 , you can see after Covic how the Government wanted foreigner workers so bad, people have planned around that , Canada settlement is still 3 years and most other countries are still 3 years remember ?

@Noalilv @Zeeshyttt @PolitlcsUK @theipaper No, that’s not true. Visa fees are visa fees; there is no adjustment. And yes, implementing the rules is welcome, but enforcing them equally on everyone, regardless of circumstances, is something that is very difficult to do because Of Human rights

@blexbekene @Zeeshyttt @PolitlcsUK @theipaper NHS drs and nurses are exempt from the ILR changes. However, a careworker earning £25k with 2 or 3 children (as is the case for many) is a net negative contributor. They take more out of the system than they pay in. They also do not pay IHS and their visa fees are almost zero.

This is where Human rights comes in , if it was easy to implement they would have implemented it since last year , because Those Boriswave are contributing to the system, that’s just it , or you think the government don’t know what they are doing ? One legal migrant in his P45 will contribution of £23,450 in 1 year , do you know how much the government are pocketing from this legal migrants of Drs nurses and Care workers you call Boriswave ? Do you know how much they are contributing , and funny enough they don’t have recourse to public funds , they work so hard like there life depends on it , if they do it that way NHS will fall

@emexodoms @Luke20240201 @cgdav135 Please share this "promise" that was made. Where was it written? It sounds similar to the "promise" made to British citizens when they started work that they would be able to retire at 55, 58, 60 etc...

I think there is an opening for @ZiaYusufUK to respond with additional retrospective policy to counter this. To bake in the Boriswave alongside the backdrop of decades of mass immigration would finish the country off.
