I think all 3 of Santos, Mainoo & Tielemans are underrated defensively.
The only issue is actual athleticism and ground coverage; one peak athlete softens this.
You can also soften it by getting a PEAK athlete in the backline.

Tielemans and Santos for the price of Fernandes would be worth celebrating as shrewd if United didn't want Fernandes first. But I do agree we've ended up with experience that Fernandes could never provide

A good player but sense of chaos engulfing United. Missing out on targets, a deal collapsing and moving for older target than intended. Club also denied they had agreed £48m + £2m in add-ons for Andrey Santos last week, only for it to be confirmed the following day.

The game is tight and Mainoo can be found wanting in his own third but putting on an injury-prone right back in midfield over him is an insult.

I’ve seen some Manchester United fans laughing at Kobbie Mainoo for not playing a single minute under Thomas Tuchel again. It makes no sense.
The difference? Tuchel is winning without Mainoo because he’s got elite options like Rice, Bellingham, Anderson, Eze, & Rogers. Amorim wasn’t winning, yet he was still picking Ugarte ahead of Mainoo.
What’s even funnier is backing a manager with less than 41% win rate who somehow thinks Bruno Fernandes & Mainoo play the same position. If that’s the level of football understanding you’re defending, maybe the problem isn’t Mainoo.

@AdamJoseph This is significant. United fans taking the stick for arguing that Mainoo should have gotten time would probably have been able to live with Wharton being ahead of him in the pecking order. This isn’t about Mainoo. Bout lack of quality in Henderson/James as midfielders.

You cannot tell me throughout this World Cup England wouldn't have been better off with Harry Maguire, Adam Wharton, Jarrod Bowen, Morgan Gibbs-White, Cole Palmer or Lewis Hall. Mexico & a half vs Croatia aside it's been one underwhelming performance after another.

@HMSview Mainoo does not merit getting into an Anderson, Rice led midfield but he’s a hell of an improvement on Henderson and/or James. Neither get onto the field ahead of Mainoo for any manager with something positive happening above his shoulders.
