In the tapestry of humanity, the threads of justice must weave a fabric that uplifts women's rights, for this strengthens the very essence of human dignity.

This week, UWONET had the honour of participating in a cross-border Women and Peace Initiative Exchange hosted by @IGADsecretariat, bringing together women peacebuilders from across the IGAD region. They shared experiences, explored collaborative approaches to conflict, and highlighted the vital role women play in peace and community resilience despite often being excluded from formal peace processes. Women’s resilience, regional solidarity, and capacity building are key to sustaining women-led initiatives and advancing the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda. @xubbifarah #WomenLeadPeaceFollows #IGAD

Ms. Hope Kabuchu has highlighted some of the factors contributing to dwindling funding for WROs, including; wars such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict & Middle East crises shifting focus, COVID-19 impacts, and …nationalism leading funders to draw resources inward, among others. 📌To address these challenges, some of the strategies discussed have included: personal lifestyle changes to address burnout and stress, joint donor engagement, adjusting to development partners' prioties while aligning with institutional mandates, inclusion of grassroots organisations in mobilization, institutional capacity building, government partnerships, engaging in sustainable business models, crowdfunding joint investments amongst others.

Given recent trends in development funding for women’s rights & gender work, a pre-UWONET AGM session is underway on: Resourcing & Resource Gaps for WROs, with global & regional context analysis. This will highlight funding realities and build collective strategies to strengthen WROs resilience, sustainability, and impact.

The power of cross-learning cannot be underestimated. It is transformative; builds capacity, drives innovation, and accelerates progress on the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. As part of JICA’s post-TICAD9 initiatives, UWONET and young women leaders from East Africa have participated in a cross learning exchange visit to; Peace Winds Japan, RICCI everyday, the Hokuriku Future Foundation & Ishikawa Prefecture to learn about WPS in Japan and vice versa. We have also attended various lectures on the WPS agenda. We look forward to using these lessons to enhance the lives of the women and girls we serve and strengthen our communities. #WPS #GenderEquality #TICAD9 #TICAD @hokuriku_mirai

Today, UWONET was honoured to serve as panel discussants at the 9th Edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), during a side event hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) @jica_direct and co-hosted by UN Women @UN_Women and @WorldBank The discussion explored innovative approaches to advancing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda globally. Key takeaways: ✅️Women and girls, most affected by conflict, are powerful agents of change whose voices must be amplified and participation strengthened to drive transformation. ✅️ Unity and collective action is vital in advancing the WPS agenda ✅️Innovation is born once issues that affect women, and girls are approached with a gender lens. #women #TICAD9 #WPS
