Sheffield Not Buying It

@WomanchesterMMN @NewcastleCC @northumbriapol @gmpolice It is still within the sub-committee's discretion to refuse a licence and Hooters clearly breaches the PSED. We campaigned hard here in Sheffield against a Hooters proposal pre Equality Act & it was refused planning permission.

It's frustrating that we are told it's due to the Licensing Act, when we found numerous reasons we felt it breached this. Likewise, the Equality Act, which is newer legislation, so supersedes. @NewcastleCC were able to refuse, as @northumbriapol objected; where were @gmpolice?!

Perhaps the male equivalent of "Dicks" with men in skimpy shorts would be a good marketing strategy for same customer base? Oh, and they are women and not "girls."

@WomanchesterMMN @sexbasedrights We go to the 1 in Nottingham & has been there years & often there’s as many women in there as men. Great bar, great selection of drinks, great food & 20 screens showing sport. These are the reasons why people go in, nobody seems bothered about the girls TBH.

Women who leave the industry say 'sitting talking to men is often the hardest part of the job because then you cannot dissociate. You have to spend hrs feigning interest & desire and not being your true self, rather than just minutes'

@flop1out So why are they then going to a strip club to talk to women? And if the women are not getting paid for it, how are they making any money? Nightclub is different as they wouldn't be going to talk to the staff.

@NotBuyingItShef But that's not a fact. Men may go to talk to women. They may also go to the pub, or use a dating app. Since men aren't paying to talk to the women, it's no different to any nightclub. This isn't your argument really, is it.

Can they not see the problem with the fact that men need to go to strip clubs to talk to women, as quoted in this piece? This is still objectification however you dress (or undress) it up.
