what’s the deal with pokemon tcg players always using fuckass sleeve brands, where’s the dragon shields and katanas

cheese isn’t available, what are you putting on your fries?

It’d be a lot easier to be upset about the Geese industry plant allegations if they weren’t self-evidently an incredible band

Pod 2. Guy has Esper Sentinel turn one. I’m paying the 1, other guy’s aren’t. He draws four extra cards and now has a gaea’s cradle creature and 6 other creatures in play. I say, that’s a lot of mana, he’s a threat, we should probably stop him. The two other players say that’s not how he wins, we are okay. He proceeds to add 7 mana and then untaps it and adds more mana. He casts 4 spells that progress his board state and passes. They say we might be in trouble. Interesting. Guy now wants us to not pay for Rhystic study so he can find an answer for this 7 creature one million mana board state. I cast nothing. We lose to insane board state next turn. After he wins players say how cool his deck is and they want the list.

I consider these four as the most influential indie games of the last decade or so.

Very funny how people endlessly theorize over the popularity of Geese, a band whose appeal is so mind-numbingly obvious that every time a music writer over 30 tries to "explain" them it comes across as a humiliation ritual

Nobody thinks Magic's non-games are "worse" than other games, nor are other games "tricking you" - Magic has, demonstrably, more of them. The game was designed in the 90s, its ok to admit they didnt do everything right. They do a great job making it feel less bad, but it's bad.

Every TCG is going to have non-games. Non-games are the result of variance which is something TCG's need. Some people feel like Magic's non-games are worse because the variance comes from the mana system, so a MTG non-game is "you don't play you cards." In reality this is no more of a non-game than some Hearthstone card doing something random to kill you out of nowhere, but Magic takes more heat for it because it feels worse. It's basically the same concept as how in Commander you can Doom Blade your opponent's commander and it's fine, but if you counter it they get salty. The result is the same, but the Doom Blade gives you the illusion that you were actually making progress and doing something. It tricks you into thinking your decisions mattered, but really they didn't. Non-games in other TCG's do a better job of giving you this illusion, to tricking you into thinking that they aren't really non-games because you are taking game actions and doing things. But really they are the same as getting mana screwed.
