I really miss being able to take my old starter motors and alternators to the local rebuilder and get back a very high quality rebuild that lasted. Nobody seems to realize that the auto parts “lifetime warranty” junk isn’t worth the extra labor to replace the junk every few months until you get lucky and score one that is halfway decent.
@CeciliaGlennon Majority of cars were not crushed, but simply sold to junk yards that sold them off part by part.I was in the Alternator and Starter rebuilding business, why come to me & spend $75 when you could get one off a junked car for $25.Multiply that by every business that sold car parts
Things we don't talk enough about:
1. Cash for Clunkers took a ton of decent used cars off the market and punished the middle and lower classes with high used car prices. 1/n
Still rocking my OBS. It might be owner bias, but I still see alot of them pulling trailers in the rural area around the western US. Mine is 31 years old now, doesn’t leak a drop and is always ready to rock and roll when I need it. I don’t commute in it, but I plan to keep it forever.
@GothamGains@hartgoat The problem with that is Fluid Film will actually destroy the Chevy factory wax coating on the frame… I learned that the hard way. You have to use something similar like RP-342.
@hartgoat Yeah that’s what happens when you don’t take care of your stuff it’s a work/ plow truck maybe fluid film it if you want it to last I had a at the time new murano with 15 k on it that looked 10 times worse the owners didn’t take care of it
@gunsnrosesgirl3 True story: watched as a drop of snot ran off the servers nose ring into the salad bar she was prepping. Just walk out if the staff is allowed to have a nose ring in while working.
@gunsnrosesgirl3 “Happy wife, happy life”
Just be happy and not because you think you need to please someone else… make a happy life and your wife will be happy too. Happiness can be infectious.
And this is not the first time I’ve come across this phenomenon
Each time I’ve explained it away as a bad apple and supported the cost
But there’s an awful lot of bad apples out there!
Going through a rough patch business-wise
Stress beyond what I’ve ever anticipated…lots of problems and few solutions
Online, people only post rainbows and ponies
Life is hard sometimes
And that’s okay
Keep your heads up
Push through it
You are going to be stranded on an island, you can pick one food item to bring with you of which you will have an unlimited supply.
What do you bring?
❌combo items like sandwiches 🥪
@benmagelsen The smell is from brine shrimp on the shoreline I’ve been told. I’ve been out on the lake sailing many times and once you’re away from shore there is no smell. Spectacular sunsets out there.
@NotFlyinisDyin Did you think it stunk back then? I think my first time to Saltaire was ~1990. I had read someplace that the smell started in the 1950s.
Thank you for sharing. I was not aware of the sandy beach in the 1980s. That was back when the lake was so high they were pumping water out.
For years I wondered why Utahn's would swim at the Great Salt Lake. Thousands did until the 1950's.
I don't know anyone who has, most in Utah have not.
Why did anyone swim a lake that smells like sewage? Did they not care?
Answer: The GSL smelled like the ocean until ~ 1950s.
