@PavlovicNBCS IMO, Matos failed to improve and maintain. Ramos had the same chance and did improve. Sure Matos was prob f'ed over a bit by prior admin, but he had all of last year and this spring to make himself indispensable and he didn't do it.

The Opening Day roster has arrived: outfielder Jared Oliva and right-handers Caleb Kilian and Keaton Winn got the final spots. Luis Matos was DFA’d.

This will be a pretty important year for Heliot Ramos in terms of where his long-term fit is in the field. If the defensive struggles continue, they may need to consider a move to DH. This poses a larger issue because he may not hit enough to be a full-time DH and...

I do think too much is being made about Jared Oliva and stealing bases. If Luis Matos was trusted as a centerfielder he’s still on the roster. But as of right now, he’s a high-potential tweener. Giants went with a different approach this season.

Seeing that Luis Matos is expected to be waived, per @susanslusser. That is a bummer, but they have about as good of an evaluation as they can have on a player.

If the Giants add 2-3 players to the 40-man roster tomorrow, they will need to create some space to do so. Reiver Sanmartin is a candidate for the 60-day IL, so that is one spot. Joel Peguero & Sam Hentges will start the year on the IL. Could they be surprise 60-day candidates?

So when I’m looking at the draft, those are the lenses I’m looking through. Winning players. Guys you can win a title with. Not fun highlights (though you can have both)

17 of the top 19 when you sort for Points Allowed are above .500, with Golden State being one of the 2 below. Cross check that with teams sorted by PPG. You quite simply HAVE to play defense to contend in this league. Otherwise you’re fun highlights and empty calories.
