I would prefer fitzgerald over bergevin if it came down to the two, but I’m not particularly interested in either of them and would rather them go with an up and comer. They would both be more competent GMs than trotz, but probably not much more than that, and just so uninspired

I’ve probably said this before but my general opinion of marc bergevin is that I think he’s probably better than his reputation but I don’t think he was good enough in montreal to excite me more than taking a swing on a new up and comer

@AlexDaugherty1 I think the explanation floating around that it’s an AGM of an active team makes sense, wouldn’t think that team would want a distraction like that sort of announcement

If the Oilers plan all along was to let Knoblauch go, then their handling of this has been horrendous. If they wanted to explore Cassidy as an option, and if it didn’t work out retain Kris, then it was risky - if it got out, they’d be scuttling a coach they just re-signed and were considering keeping. The fact it got out made a return for Knoblauch impossible. Arguably the most important off season in 30 years for this franchise gets off to a rough start. Have to think Bowman and Jackson are very much on the clock as well. Fatigue and injuries only go so far in masking a body of work with some massive mistakes at critical junctures. Brett Kulak with a series winner last night puts an exclamation point on mishandled assets and mis-reads on players. Will be an interesting few months for the organization.

@OnTheFuturePBR I think they view any pick that makes it to the NHL in any capacity as a success, regardless of position or circumstance they’re drafted. I think that’s fine from round 3 on but the bar has to get higher. Being okay with a top ten pick topping out on the third line has to change

@adater It’s very weird when people covering a certain player get really threatened whenever there’s a player that some people think could be as good or better

Quinn Hughes, a minus-1 tonight with two shots on net. A nice pass for a goal, but last I checked that's what high-paid players are supposed to do. Overall, not a great player. Not yet anyway

@AlexDaugherty1 The only thing that makes sense to me is the possibility that someone they either really like or at least want to talk to is still playing. I agree with the sentiment, "If Fitzgerald was their guy, it would be done by now"

They will hire someone before the draft. Haslam initially gave June 30 as the final target date, but added it would be before that. But the new GM would only minimally impact the scouting work going into the 26 draft anyway
