Are banks trying to block the Stablecoins CLARITY Act? Because the timing of all this pushback is… interesting. For decades banks have run one of the most profitable models in finance. Now stablecoins show up and suddenly things get uncomfortable. Stablecoins move in seconds, work 24/7, cost almost nothing to transfer, and plug directly into digital finance like trading, payments, lending, and DeFi. But here’s the real issue: Stablecoins also threaten bank deposits. Banks rely heavily on cheap deposits to fund loans. If people start holding digital dollars that move faster, cost less to use, and can even generate yield through crypto platforms, money could start leaving traditional bank accounts. Some analysts already warn U.S. banks could lose hundreds of billions in deposits if stablecoins keep growing. And that’s where the politics start getting messy. The GENIUS Act created a framework for stablecoins, but it also banned issuers from paying interest. Banks supported that part. Now the debate around the CLARITY Act is heating up, especially around whether stablecoin platforms could still offer rewards or yield through other channels. If they can, stablecoins might start looking like better cash than bank accounts.
