My uncle reckons that the Oceania-ism "fuck spiders" was originally meant to describe very difficult tasks ie. "as hard as trying to ____". Other uncle says he's wrong, and it was cockney rhyme for "muck around" + another word he forgot. So who knows. Great idiom either way.

Something that I'm noticing that's another effect of the literacy crisis is people getting common phrases and sayings *slightly* wrong. I've seen "nail gazing" instead of "navel gazing" or "burst your bubbles" or "my bang for my buck" or "click" in writing instead of "clique."
