German Chancellor Merz made a huge mistake by insulting President Trump last week. He could have just kept his mouth shut. Germany’s auto industry was already in deep trouble with massive layoffs, closing and moving factories due to energy costs and regulations. German automakers lost most of their Chinese export market in recent years as Chinese cars became preferred domestically. Now all of their exports to the USA just became much more expensive. So Trump just nuked Mercedes, BMW and Volkswagen.
