@NukitToBeSure couldn't it be a little more environmentally-friendly? like compostable containers or reusable dishware? when i was in school, food in the cafeteria came on reusable trays. now i see all the school food comes on disposable plates and trays. SO MUCH GARBAGE EVERYDAY.

What I don't get about US food prices at the moment is that the high cost actually runs counter to the interests of the capitalists and oligarchs? The whole reason we have canteens in most companies (or a cooking ayi in small businesses) and a huge variety of low-cost take-out/delivery options in Shenzhen is that if people had to cook, productivity and overtime would plummet. I don't know anyone who brings their own lunch from home to any kind of job? (It's also a bit harder here because we don't really consider cold food like a sandwich a real meal). Even at the lowest paid end of the labor pool, they get a box lunch for 10-20rmb, one meat and two vegetables, two meats and three vegetables, unlimited rice at some places. workercn.cn/c/2025-03-20/8… post.smzdm.com/talk/p/ax6vze5… You want engineers and salespeople doing their job? Not home making tomato and egg? Offload that onto people who are good at that and can do it cost-effectively at scale? High food prices are also a huge driver of social instability- it's why we have strong price controls on staples. If you want torches and pitchforks, make it expensive to eat? If I were trying to quietly get a population to accept getting replaced with AI and robots, I'd keep them supplied with cheap, good food. High food prices are a nonsensical and very counterproductive strategy.

@SmartairUk @pamwantspeace @ERNACT @CleanAirIE @cile171 Love to see the Blast MK II being used in classrooms👍 We've all seen noisy plastic crap with apps just get unplugged and end up discrediting clean air programs. Right tool for the job there.

Pleased to support the launch of the pilot at Scoil Naomh Bríd in Muff, the first school in Ireland to take part in this programme. It’s encouraging to see a strong focus on improving indoor air quality for pupils and staff. linkedin.com/posts/ernact-h… @ERNACT @CleanAirIE @cile171

@antiviral_mktng @DrMLivingston @asianvalues @Qantas I think we won't get very far with science here and it's best to take the W on the mask recommendations and give people a pass on additional palliative measures. There's a lot of information fatigue going around.

@DrMLivingston @asianvalues @Qantas The QT3 unfortunately does provide negligible protection. It has been tested and is not effective for this mode of use. x.com/NukitToBeSure/…
Nukit@NukitToBeSure

Damn it, made me get out of bed, go down to the shop and break out the zipties. QT3 at 80cm, Temtop PMD331, hot wire anemometer to ensure the louvers were pointed right and the sample is taken in optimal flow path. It's not an optimal setup at this time of night, but that's what third-party tests are for. TLDR- quit your bullshit. Send one to @ghhughes, or else we can pretty well guess that all your in-house tests are equally dodgy. You were much cooler when you sold an honest product and didn't endanger people. I have three SA600s that do their job just fine so I never bothered to replace them with my own stuff. Going down this road was so unnecessary.

Was giving the Smart Air QT3 a go on @qantas flight to Brisbane, cabin crew initially thought it’s a small heater as it’s cold this morning. Explained what it was. Just had them taken off us @Qantas by cabin crew. Huh? First time ever on any flight either domestic or international always had HEPA allowed on any flights previously since 2021. They are hand held and can easily be held for take off and landing.

Understandably, it's a little hard to cope these days, and our tools make us feel a little safer in an unsafe world. We just have to make ones that work more available and more affordable than the ones that don't work. But slick marketing beats good engineering and solid science every time😣

@NukitToBeSure Out of interest, do they feed people in the public service jobs in China? Here, they frown upon anything that could be deemed 'wasteful' in government, which ends up being the same policies in most big businesses

I don't want to badger people over this. Marketing is more effective than data; we have to push for regulation, not try to break the numbers down for people doing their best, it just has not been effective. I think let them know, see if they are interested in the science, then move on.

Entrainment might be an issue, but mostly it's just mixing too fast to do anything by the time in reaches you. Filtration just isn't local without a very carefully designed laminar flow outlet. You can't bring a portable little pee-filter into a swimming pool filled with toddlers and expect to create a pee-free bubble around your face, fluids just don't work that way.

@NukitToBeSure @narelleford @DrMLivingston @Qantas Without the laminar flow that a product like AirFanta provides, isn't shooting higher velocity air stream more dangerous? Higher potential dose of virions due to entrainment? Haven't seen CFD on this type of interaction.

@narelleford @NukitToBeSure @DrMLivingston @Qantas Reducing dose is key. A split second to doff your respirator and ingest some liquid before donning your respirator on again is how many of us keep hydrated when we can't breathe fully filtered air. Or use a sipmask attachment.

Yep, very important to stay hydrated, so long as it's understood that mask-off time should be considered unprotected and that magical thinking is not evidence. If we are going to claim protection without evidence or even a plausible method of action and go with vibes and feels, we can't expect to be taken more seriously than the ivermectin crowd. I still use Smart Air products, I like their products, I suggest some of their products over my own in certain situations- but I and others have tested the QT3, and it cannot offer near field-protection over 3cm away, even if you feel a breeze against your face: x.com/NukitToBeSure/… It can be helpful in a small area- like a car or tent. The Air Fanta Wear can offer some protection while eating because it is designed to be used very, very close. x.com/NukitToBeSure/… These are both highly competent direct competitors, and I have no reason to prefer one over the other. Even the Nukit Torch- it has a plausible mode of efficacy based on CFD modeling, but it also has not been definitively proven in a space the size of an aircraft interior. Localized protection is very, very hard. youtube.com/watch?v=wTCfU7…

Well, foreign cope about China has always been predicated on "You can't have that good thing China has because it is inseparable from this completely unrelated bad thing". Like, "Are you are willing to give up Internet freedom for a thriving manufacturing sector?". So they have to focus on the bad things to keep people from demanding the good, many of which are completely achievable without doing some of the things we do that are incompatible with European sensibilities. I mean, the Chinese legal system is strongly influenced by the German one- and we certainly didn't take on more than we wanted from them. It's not a package deal.

@NukitToBeSure The subtle Anti-Chinese propaganda in everyday European life is actually quite astonishing. I was born in the 70s & we didn’t get taught anything good about China in school. Imagine my surprise when I started watching C-dramas & saw how technically advanced Chinese society is.

@NukitToBeSure @ariccio Have cereal grains (rice, millet, wheat) always been staples for even the lowest peasant in China? If so, that might explain the difference. In the Irish potato famine, peasants were forced to hand over all grain and other easy to confiscate and ship foods they grew, and could

Every group has bad actors. There is no identity that precludes being a bad actor. Bad actors spend years, even decades, masking their true motivations and infiltrating groups where they can abuse with impunity, even if they have no interest in the stated objectives of that group (priests, police, politicians, etc.) Anyone who suggests that individuals be judged by their identity or group affiliation instead of their actions, that their identity or group affiliation excuses their actions, or puts them above criticism, is working to protect bad actors- not their community.

Me: “Y’all have got to stop pretending misogyny is a leftist men problem when really it pervades every group, and the only special thing about leftist male misogyny is their typically being better at keeping it plausibly deniable.” Responses: “She’s a men’s rights activist!” 🙄

Probably like Westerners worry about personal freedom in other countries. Hunger really freaks Chinese people out. Strong ancestral memory of famine. We'll put up with a lot so long as everyone eats. It's as hard for us to understand a more casual attitude about hunger as it is for Westerners to understand a more casual attitude about personal freedom.
