When we talk about men being submissive to other men, it includes this purity culture nonsense. Grooming daughters as sexual gifts for other men is men submitting to & seeking approval from men.

They think that teaching abstinence-only deters kids from having sex when in actuality, teaching them proper info deters them to wait until they are ready.

@Emma_h_mua @soulkhan I agree! I guarantee that your child isn't going to base their decision on whether to have sex or not on whether they have the vaccine. So get them vaccinated. It's not like it's going to hurt them to have it earlier.

the fact that hpv isn't a mandated vaccine is truly insane. so many parents fear their children having autonomy more than they want their children to live

@BostonMermaids @s_cowles @soulkhan @AceRedBand1t I don't think they can check for it if you don't have symptoms. If you had a lesion, they could biopsy. But yes, you should still get the vaccine because it covers multiple strands of HPV. Even if you've been exposed to one, you likely haven't been exposed to them all.

@soulkhan I once had some guy telling me he wouldn't let his daughter have the vax till she was over 18 'coz she wouldn't be having sex'. I tried to explain that that's naive, & unfortunately you cannot rule out unconsensual attacks. He still didn't care. Vile.

@AnarchoShilo @soulkhan I deleted my old comment just to fact check real fast, but my state too required us to get the vaccine in sixth grade. And while I couldn’t fully verify this, I’m pretty sure that rule only applied to girls. Which is stupid.
