It’s curious. Some of my favorite tunes from the golden era are essentially unGoogleable now. Zero results. Maybe search is broken. Maybe the music is forgotten?

@natemixing Big brain move on Yamaha’s part to make the cones white for that exact reason. It’s also why so many people bought KRK rokits in the beatmaker era. They saw yellow cones in a producer they liked’s studio & thought “quality” instead of “mushy transients & comb filter-ahh highs”

I’m curious how many people bought Yamaha HS monitors because they thought that it’s the same monitors they see on every big studio picture

AI helps to offload tasks that aren’t worth the time. BUT should it be intermediary in connecting people? In words, art, music? Does my message need auto tuning? If the artist doesn’t value the message, they will offload. If the art isn’t worth the time, then what's the point?

@ALEPH_Sound You have to compensate w sensitive headphones. Loud ass hd25s did the job back when I was touring. If I were to do it all over again, I’d wanna try IEMs and switch between cue/mix so no booth needed at all. Or just do what the kiddies are doing and mash on the SYNC button.

Today’s example: Deftones – Be Quiet and Drive. There’s a layer of guitar harmonies buried in the mix that never made it through my $10 cans from high school. Now I hear them. Totally different song.

A song can change so much when played through a proper signal path and decent speakers. I’m discovering parts of tracks I’ve that didn’t exist before and am now realizing that the songs of my youth were never really there to begin with.

2025 musician reality; it’s a career risk to try to not be cringe. I don’t know what I’m doing. No real strategy. I’m just putting out tunes and letting go of any expectation of results. The music will carry me if it’s good enough. If it’s too mid to carry me, I’ll be humble.
