It is essential to know the patient's history. A 60-year-old female presents with a right breast mass. The diagnosis is metastatic melanoma, which can be misdiagnosed as triple-negative breast cancer. Always review the patient's history and verify the primary origin, especially if this is the first-time diagnosis. Please note the E-cadherin immunostaining pattern as well. It can be confusing.

Congrats to colleague Dr. Terry Boyle on receiving @MoffittNews 2026 Unsung Hero Award. This honors her yrs of exceptional dedication & behind-the-scenes leadership in translational research & clinical molecular diagnostics at Moffitt. Her work has been key to improving pt care & our mission. Key achievements: - Pioneered innovative clinical molecular diagnostic assays, expanding testing capabilities. - Instrumental in establishing & maintaining the Rapid Tissue Donation Program, a vital resource for pathology & translational research. - Provided consistent support for tumor boards w/ high-quality molecular interpretation. - Led research on RNA/protein expression in lung cancer & other tumors. - Always available (often on short notice) for complex mutation interp & lab questions. Dr. Boyle’s quiet dedication, scientific rigor, & support for colleagues truly define “unsung hero.” Well-deserved recognition for her impact on dept, institution, & pts. Congrats again! #Moffitt @rezaesh58 @DrBuiPathology @USFpathology #Congratulations

AI can now diagnose some medial cases in seconds. That’s incredible. But if the computer always has the answer… how will young doctors learn to think? And will experienced docs quickly de-skill? This may be one of the biggest questions in medicine right now. Some thoughts👇🏻

On National Thank a Resident and Fellow Day (February 27, 2026), we celebrate our residents and fellows whose commitment, curiosity, and compassion bring @MoffittNews’s purpose to life—to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer—and accelerate ourvision to create revolutionary breakthroughs and innovations that rapidly impact and save more lives. Your efforts embody Moffitt values—excellence, ethical practice, collaboration, respect, and stewardship—in every case you work on, conference, frozen section, and consultations. Nowhere is this more evident than in pathology training, where your rigor and teamwork ensure the right diagnosis—the foundation on which effective cancer treatment begins—and advance the science that powers tomorrow’s care. Education and training are not just activities at Moffitt; they are a core part of our mission and a driver of our impact across our catchment area and beyond. Thank you for the excellence you deliver today and the discoveries you make possible tomorrow—we are proud to learn with you, practice with you, and grow with you. @USFpathology #pathology #residents #fellows @DrBuiPathology @EHJPathDiva @rezaesh58

I apologize, I have been off service so I haven’t had any cool cases. I did get to spend some time teaching fellows and residents about the treacherous and confusing findings that can be seen in lung frozen sections. BTW, I’ll be at the @FLPathologists summer meeting delving more into challenging frozen sections in thoracic pathology. Happy to be able to do this for a living and representing @MoffittNews in the State of Florida. #moffitt #fsp #pathology #thoracic #thoracic #pulmpath flpath.org/summer-confere…

History in the making! Today I arrived at my new digital pathology ready office at @MoffittNews, welcomed by the future of pathology in our department. Being the first pathologist with a digital pathology station is a great honor. Digital pathology will revolutionize patient care at @MoffittNews, opening new opportunities with computational and AI-assisted diagnosis. We couldn’t achieve this landmark without the vision of Moffitt’s President @PatrickHwuMD and our Chair @bmwenigmd. I also want to recognize everyone from IT and many others. Special shout-out to @ehogan85 for making this transition smooth and fun! Digital pathology plays a pivotal role in accelerating accurate diagnosis, enhancing workflow efficiency, and enabling data-driven precision oncology. Its growing adoption at @MoffittNews directly supports our institution’s mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer through transformative care, cutting-edge science, and innovation. #moffitt #future #pathology #digitalpathology #innovation

This is Mariano Barbacid, a Spanish cancer researcher who recently made the news after finding a cure for an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer in mice. His lab developed a new triple therapy regimen targeting the KRAS cancer pathway, implicated in 90% of pancreatic cancers. The combination of daraxonsib, a RAS(ON) inhibitor, afatinib (EGFR/HER2 inhibitor) and SD36 (a selective STAT3 PROTAC) led to complete elimination of tumour cells over a 200 day study period, bringing much needed hope to this often devastating condition.

Case of the day: An elderly never-smoker male with no significant oncologic history presents with a right lower lobe/pleural mass. Histologic sections show a poorly differentiated pleomorphic epithelioid and sarcomatoid malignant neoplasm. A large panel of immunostains was positive only for actin and myogenin, while multiple keratins, melanoma, mesothelioma, and site-specific markers were negative. INI1 and BRG1 nuclear expression was preserved. Would you call this a rhabdomyosarcoma? Final diagnosis to follow tomorrow. #zebra #NGS #lung #pathology #pulmonary #TwitterPath #Moffitt #Pulmpath

It is rare in the tubular gastrointestinal tract, but globular amyloid is associated with light chain restriction. There is no neoplasm here, but the patient should be investigated for a plasma cell disorder. PMID: 17197930.
