Deutsche Bank recently updated their Trump tariff inflation forecasts as shown below: If the 25% tariffs on Canada/Mexico have a 50% pass-through, PCE inflation would rise 80 bps. A 75% pass-through would add 110 bps to PCE inflation. The Fed won't like this.

Tariffs are coming: President Trump is set to place tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada by as soon as February 1st. Estimates show that Trump's tariffs could generate up to $3.3 TRILLION in revenue over the next 10 years. What does this mean for markets? (a thread)

@KobeissiLetter Wouldn’t implementing a Universal Basic Income offset the expected increase in the cost of goods people will face?

Lastly, the previous Trump trade war is evidence that households will bare some of the cost. Tariffs imposed between 2018-2023 cost US households an average of ~$250 per year. Are tariffs worth the cost? Follow us @KobeissiLetter for real time analysis as this develops.

With that said, tariffs do not necessarily mean the market will crash. In Trump's first term, the S&P 500 rose nearly 70% even with widespread tariff implementation. During Biden's term, the S&P 500 rose 60% while many of these tariffs, and new ones, were still implemented.

It's dumb to think every representative needs to be concerned about overperformance — the luxury of being in a safe district means that usually doesn't matter. Except when you want the party to move to adopt your messaging for elections, it kind of *does* matter.

A couple nights ago we had to take our daughter to the ER for dehydration (she's doing better now). On the way over, I called Aetna to confirm costs, and ended up talking to a useless virtual assistant. Looked at my wife and said "I can build this so much better" and so I put together a POC using Hello Patient. Here it is:
