@RugabaAgaba @qataharraymond It's only the amount above 10m that's taxed at 40%. Using the proposed amendment, adjusting the rates for the lower bands, this is how tax is computed.

@NzeAaron @qataharraymond So what will be the tax on Salary of Ugx 11m? Is it Ugx 4.4m (40% of Ugx 11m) OR Ugx 3.4m (30% of Ugx 10m plus 40% of Ugx 1m) ? A whole difference of Ugx 1m!

Actually, under the proposed amendment, monthly employment income below Shs335,001 will not be subject to any income tax.

@qataharraymond @mugagga51 It may not be tenable, but it has been the rate for those earning above 10m since 2012. What's going to change is the 30% band being increased to 35%. After the fake news about 40% has circulated enough, 35% will seem like a compromise.

@kyamageroandrew @mofpedU @URA_CG Actually, if the 10% in the first band is scrapped, there is a general reduction in the tax. The 10% charged on employment income above 10m has been there since the 2012 income tax amendment.
